Gray Gardens: Romantic Mint, Berry & Orchid Wedding Inspiration

By Tessa Woolf July 21, 2014

We have some gorgeous mid-summer wedding inspiration for your viewing pleasure today. Local talents Erin Kate Photography and Soil & Stem collaborated with You Doll Design, Pippa Cakery, and Frou Frou Chic to create this romantic styled shoot. Inspired by the color du year, Radiant Orchid, and vintage floral frogs (repurposed here as favors and display items for paper goods), the garden-themed shoot highlights richly hued floral arrangements,  hand-lettered calligraphy, heirloom jewelry and flatware, and refreshing summer desserts: creamy berry gelato, berry and mint spritzers cooled with beautiful petal-filled ice cubes, and a milky buttercream cake crowned with ripe berries and French silk ribbon. Enjoy the lovely images and read more about the team's inspiration and details of the shoot below.

Nicole Land of Soil & Stem shares more info and her thoughts about the styled shoot:

A cozy bungalow was home to an intimate setting for this garden styled shoot. Inspiration derived from a piece of history in floral design ingenuity: the floral frog. Our intention was to breathe new life into these sculpture-like pieces by incorporating them in a nontraditional fashion.

We wanted to keep our look personal and organic. To achieve this vision, we used delicate detailing such as hand-lettered calligraphy, heirloom jewelry and flatware, French silk ribbon, and fresh mint sprigs harvested from the garden that very morning. Our vintage frogs were chosen to display seating assignments, menu, and invitation. We really loved the contrast of harsh metal against the supple fluidity of calligraphy. Floral frogs were also given as favors for wedding guests to use in their own garden bouquets or to display as art in their home.

From the flowers to gelato and even to our signature spritzer and ice, you will find rich berry and orchid hues woven throughout today’s shoot. Our berry theme carried over (literally in berries!) to our boutonnieres and cake styling. We find these colors evoke passion, closeness, and creativity – a little of what every love story is made of. David Austin’s ‘Kate’ garden roses, named in honor of the Duchess of Cambridge, provide us with a magenta that is striking against other beautiful stems like ranunculus, stock, mint, and olive. Aside from color, Kate’s fragrance is fresh with delicious hints of raspberry, redcurrant, and geranium.

My favorite part of the day was plucking a stray purpling ivy vine that had crept its way onto my lawn. Using ivy was never a part of my original design but it transformed into a lovely gestural member in my arrangements. Sometimes these small and inconsequential nuances can tie everything together to form a perfect marriage.

Thank you Erin Kate Photography and Soil & Stem for sharing this styled shoot with us today!
