This decade’s biggest home trend isn’t a popular paint color or a must-have appliance, but rather an emphasis on wellness design—dare we say, dwellness? Also called holistic design, the practice focuses on optimizing a homeowner’s physical, mental, and even spiritual health when creating a living space. Elements such as lighting, HVAC, building materials, and technology all factor into wellness design. The ultimate goal? Creating restorative spaces that look good and also feel good to live in. If home is where the heart is, then holistic design ensures that the heart is beating at a healthy rate.

Last August, the first home completed in Velvaere, Park City’s new wellness-centric luxury community by Bonfire Collective (formerly Magleby Development) and Magleby Interiors, officially opened its doors. Located adjacent to Deer Valley’s expanded East Village, the 60-acre mountainside community boasts 115 planned residences and will include a new ski lift (projected for the 2025–2026 season) and direct ski-in, ski-out access to Deer Valley Resort. All homeowners at Velvaere will have access to a state-of-the-art Wellness Center, an après-ski beach, year-round gear storage and rentals, a full-service restaurant, rooftop bar, outdoor pools, and more.

The Dwelling

Dubbed Solace, Velvaere’s debut abode is a shining example of how holistic design could be the way of the future for architecture, interiors, and daily living.

“Velvaere’s approach to home building is to truly revolutionize what it means to be ‘well’ and inspire wellness-based homes and communities of all kinds not just in Utah, but around the world,” says Chad Magleby, partner at Bonfire Collective. “The first stage of our vision has come to life through our first completed home, offering a unique type of residence to the Park City community. Velvaere is more than just a place to live; it provides a holistic lifestyle that prioritizes health, wellness, and a strong connection with nature, with access to some of the best skiing in the world, just outside your back door.”

Solace is a five-bedroom, five-and-a-half-bathroom home—clocking in just under 5,000 square feet—with sweeping views of the surrounding mountain landscape and Jordanelle Reservoir. The dwelling was constructed primarily using locally sourced and sustainable materials such as stone, tanned leather, naturally dyed fabrics, and antimicrobial copper for hardware and plumbing fittings. The spacious property features 10-foot ceilings throughout, a striking floating staircase, and eight-foot solid-core interior doors. A mudroom provides ample ski storage and is equipped with ski boot dryers. Technology highlights in the home include Josh.ai voice control, Lutron automated window shades, Lutron Ketra lighting, hydronic radiant floors in all bathrooms, Zip Water HydroTaps and Lomi compost bins in the kitchen, chargers for electric vehicles in the garage, and a built-in security system with automated door locks and doorbell camera.

Intentional seating areas are placed throughout the home on every floor and in each room. The centerpiece of the main bedroom is a striking gas fireplace activated by Josh.ai voice control. In the en suite bathroom, amenities include hydronic radiant floors, a steam shower, soaking tub, and a Kohler Numi toilet, which features a heated seat, ambient colored lighting, built-in audio speaker system, and hands-free opening and closing.
The spacious open kitchen includes white oak kitchen cabinetry, Gaggenau cooling and warming drawers, Lomi compost bin, Zip Water HydroTap, and more.

For the interiors, INC Architecture & Design selected a palette of colors, shapes, and textures rooted in nature and inspired by rivers, crystal formations, and the nearby Wasatch Mountain Range. Solace’s walls and ceilings are cloaked with VOC-absorbing paint, while floors dressed with eco-friendly wool carpet help improve indoor air quality.

Homes in the Velvaere community include a customizable sanctuary space. In Solace, the space includes a full treatment room, steam shower, cold/hot plunge, HaloIR sauna, and full Technogym.

But the highlight of Solace, like each residence in the Velvaere community, is the customizable Synergistic Sanctuary Space on its bottom floor. This zen zone includes innovative wellness amenities such as a full Technogym, HaloIR sauna, steam shower, cold/hot plunge, full treatment room (with storage to hold equipment).

The Wellness Center

Velvaere’s state-of-the-art, 20,000-square-foot Wellness Center will feature industry-leading technology and a unique menu of experiences. Residents will have exclusive access to a variety of amenities: cryotherapy, a hyperbaric chamber/pod, LightStem LED, flotation pool, integrative medicine, cognitive health, and much more.

Velvaere's Wellness Center will offer a yoga and pilates studio, an outdoor lap pool, skincare and beauty treatments, sound baths, infrared and IV therapy, a cafe and juice bar, and more.

The Wellness Center will also feature Aescape’s fully automated, cutting-edge robotic massage system—a first for Park City residents. Aescape technology scans a user’s body and generates more than 1.2 million 3D data points to deliver a massage tailored to individual needs. Through Aescape’s touchscreen interface, users can select targeted areas, pressure levels, and even music preferences.

Additionally, a partnership with Fountain Life, a preventative health and longevity company, will offer Velvaere residents access to early health screenings and precision diagnostics through AI integration in their homes to improve the quality of residents’ sleep, air, fitness, and nutrition.
