Toni Sailer, one of Cole Sport’s top-selling brands, celebrates its 20th anniversary with a new skiwear collection featuring a special “Alpes” print in collaboration with graphic artist Daniela Könn.

When it comes to shopping for stylish skiwear, those in the know go to Cole Sport. With four locations in Park City—including the flagship store on Park Avenue, and outposts at Deer Valley Resort and Park City Mountain—it has been outfitting locals and visitors with ski equipment and apparel for more than 40 years. And while the shop is known for its hand-picked gear and custom boot fittings, it’s the selection of chic on- and off-piste attire—sourced globally from ski brands offering both fashion and function—that differentiates Cole Sport from other ski and snowboard retail shops.

The woman responsible for curating Cole Sport’s stylish array of clothing, from parkas and ski pants to sweaters and mittens, is Kathy Burke, the store’s longtime buyer and part of the senior management team. Burke has been with Cole Sport since the beginning—the original Cole Sport opened at Park City Mountain Resort in 1982, and she started working for the family-owned business in 1985 as a high school student. When Burke graduated from college, she was offered a job by founders Jana and Gary Cole to work at the newly opened Deer Valley store. She took the gig and started working as a buyer a few years later.

“Back then, there were a lot of shoulder pads, even in skiwear, and a lot of bright colors and technical fabrics,” recalls Burke. “But Gary had a vision for the store, and it was always about fashion. He loved clothes and liked to dress nicely. No one was offering fashionable skiwear at that time.” Gary introduced Burke to high-end, European ski brands, and they even traveled to ski resorts in Europe to scout local retail stores.

Today, Burke is in charge of buying soft goods, skiwear, ready-to-wear, accessories, furnishings, and gift items for all four Cole Sport stores. She regularly travels to Europe to attend tradeshows and visit showrooms from Amsterdam to Milan and Salzburg to Paris. She seeks out brands that appeal to a variety of generations and demographics to bring back to Park City. “We have customers from ages 16 to 65,” she notes. “This town has very active and stylish people. Our brands apply to everyone.”

Burke shares some of Cole Sport’s most beloved brands and newcomers this season.

Cordova: Featuring luxe one-piece suits and monochromatic jackets and pants, this new-to-the-shop women’s ski brand has been on Burke’s radar for a while. “It’s an IYKYK brand,” she says.

Fire + Ice: The more sporty, urban-inspired offshoot of German ski brand Bogner, the current season collection features quilted ski jackets, pants, and base layers—in black, white, and vibrant pink hues.

Frauenschuh: Cole Sport was one of the first shops to import this Austrian ski brand. The third-generation, family-owned company is known for luxurious men’s and women’s apparel, combining cashmere, leather, and wool with high-tech materials.

Fusalp: Newer to the shop, Burke describes this chic men’s and women’s ski brand from Paris as “very elegant and on-trend with an amazing fit.”

Halfdays: This young and sporty ski brand—featuring puffer jackets, ski bibs, fleece pullovers, base layers, and more—is new to Cole Sport, but Burke says it appeals to all generations.

Toni Sailer: Cole Sport was the first shop to import this Munich-based ski brand to the US, and it continues to be a top-seller. This year, Toni Sailer celebrates its 20th anniversary with a new collection featuring a special “Alpes” print in collaboration with graphic artist Daniela Könn, and skiwear in shades of ivory, cornflower blue, and olive, alongside the brand’s signature black-and-red palette.

Vonn: This new luxury performance collection by Olympic ski racer Lindsey Vonn, in partnership with Head Sportswear, will be carried at Cole Sport’s Deer Valley store. “The collection is elegant but sporty—it’s quite cool,” says Burke.
