Park City–Based Holistic Spirits Offers an Innovative Way to Unwind

The worlds of wellness and nightlife have long been at odds, but a local spirits company is challenging that divide and proving that mindful living and after-dark libations can coexist. Holistic Spirits Co is based on a simple yet revolutionary idea: You shouldn’t have to compromise wellness to enjoy a drink with friends.
Founded by entrepreneur Amy Holmwood and actor/environmentalist Woody Harrelson, Holistic Spirits is shaking up the beverage industry with its line of plant-forward vodka and gin and leaving a lasting impression—without the hangover.
“We are seeing all types of innovation in the beverage space, with better, cleaner options,” she explains. “But we weren’t seeing that in the liquor space.”
After noticing this gap in the market, Holmwood—who has a background in plant science and nutrition—enlisted a local scientist to help her formulate the recipes for what would become Holistic Spirits Origen vodka and Harmony gin.

The goal was to create a liquor with reduced toxicity as a foundation. “We had to determine which ingredients (plants) would stabilize in alcohol and still have antioxidant benefits,” Holmwood says. “We reviewed dozens of ingredients, and we found four.” The spirits are infused with a blend of artichoke leaf, elderberry, muscadine grape, and green-tea leaf extract, and are free of artificial flavors, colors, additives, and GMOs.
“We sent Woody a bottle and he enjoyed it with his wife and neighbors and felt great the next day,” she recalls. Harrelson now owns part of the company.
Holistic Spirits utilizes organic certified distillers in California and Maryland, with plans to have some production in Utah in the future. But for now, their products can be purchased in all local liquor stores, and sampled at many bars and restaurants around Park City, including 501 On Main, Grappa, Palomino, Pine Cone Ridge, and Riverhorse on Main.
