GOING GREEN

Wanting to create a chic and sophisticated look, Rachael Affleck Mayo, owner and head designer of Rachael Ellen Events, brought modern elements with a romantic feel to her design. Mayo was initially inspired by a gray-and-white floral print, and her concept blossomed from there. “I first thought of how cool an acrylic stand would look with billowy romantic flowers in front of this [floral-print] backdrop. It would be modern, classic, and romantic—the three words our designs are always founded on. From there, the pop of emerald, the velvet, the gold, the all-white florals—all these details evolved and became what this design is.” Her aesthetic was completed with contemporary black-and-white plates, gold flatware, an emerald velvet tablecloth, clear ghost chairs, black taper candles, and gold-trimmed glassware with a blackberry mint gin spritzer and a honey-thyme whiskey cider.

MOD LOVE

Designed by Mikyla Manu at Ink & Press Co, this fresh invitation suite added just the right amount of beautiful simplicity and modern charm. Manu brought in a pop of emerald with a gray-and-white pattern to match Mayo’s floral-print inspiration. Mayo added a matching boutonniere and velvet ring box, topped off with a stunning 3.06-carat Ashoka-cut Kwiat diamond ring from O.C. Tanner.

PAINT IT BLACK

This showstopping, jet-black cake created by Cassidy Budge of Flour & Flourish tempers its bold palette with delicate sugar flowers. For favors, Mayo wrapped Flour & Flourish’s emerald green and gold-dusted macarons in a gray-and-white gift box, sealed with an elegant wax seal. The only problem with these favors is that your guests might not wait until they get home to eat the delectable treats.

PRETTY IN PURPLE

Tones of mauves and rich purples along with the raw, aged Salt Lake Hardware Building inspired Leslie Price, owner and lead designer of Leslie Dawn Events, to create her lavish and glamorous concept.  “I enjoyed playing with a different color palette. Modern designs seem to lean toward lighter colors with clean lines, but I wanted to try an on-trend color palette and different shapes to create something unexpected.” To complement her design, Price brought on Ed Kubicek of Saxromney to compose an arrangement with dramatic effect. Kubicek says the height of the arrangement is different and provides a practical application—being able to see your table guests and have good conversation. “It’s a modern take, not something you see all the time. The trend right now is romantic and light, but this is darker and a lot more modern, and I like that about it,” Kubicek notes.

DEEP AND FANCIFUL

Intimate details like the personalized calligraphy, organically scratched gray paper, statuesque gray-and-black candles, and a signature sugar plum sparkler cocktail create a warm ambience for a romantic night. Designed and hand-drawn by Meg Snyder Design, this invitation suite is wonderfully surrounded by deep floral accents and an O.C. Tanner Collection Luna 1.51-carat square Grace diamond ring in a soft velvet pink ring box.

MODERN MAUVE

Wow your guests with this crystalline purple-and-gray cake by Salt Cake City; it’s an unexpected way to incorporate the Pantone color of 2018, ultraviolet, into your wedding palette. For favors, rose lemonade is sure to please everyone because it can work as a refreshing drink by itself, or as a fun cocktail mixer. The rose color plays into this modern yet romantic color scheme, and the custom thank-you cards add a stylish touch.

HAVE IT HERE

The Salt Lake Hardware Building is a Utah staple. Built in 1909, its size surpassed any other warehouse building west of Chicago. This five-story building, arranged with more than two million bricks, brings a raw, industrial, and historic charm to any wedding. Although the space is vast, you can create a cozy atmosphere by adding black-out curtains and strung lights (both available for rent through the Salt Lake Hardware Building). Play into the history with an antique-inspired wedding, or go modern, harmoniously blending old and new.
