For those of us who work in the wedding industry, it's always fun to think about what we would do if the reception tables were turned and we were the bride or groom getting hitched. Local event planner slash designer slash florist Karley Parker of Scenemakers found herself in that very position when coordinating the details of her May nuptials to her long-time love, Geoffrey, at The Rose Establishment in downtown Salt Lake City.

So what's a bloomsmith to do when planning her bridal photos? Parker teamed up with Miesh Photography and fellow florists Sarah Winward and Nicole Land to design a gorgeous spring bridal shoot overflowing with abundant blooms that's truly the stuff of wedding dreams. Below, see snapshots from the shoot and read more about Parker's inspiration and the details behind her stems and style.

SLPCBG: What was your inspiration for the bridal shoot? 

I was inspired by my favorite season for this shoot: spring! I wanted it to be a girly day of flowers and getting detail shots that I didn't want to worry about on the day of the wedding. We all felt no time restriction, which made for a creative and relaxing day at Miesh's studio.

Who designed the flowers for your shoot? 

Sarah Winward of Honey of a Thousand Flowers and Nicole Land of Soil & Stem set up two different areas of floral for us to shoot in front of, which were what dreams are made of. They included two of my favorite flowers, lilac and wisteria. I wish the photos were scratch and sniff—the smell was intoxicating. Almost everything was foraged; I cut my entire lilac bush down for the shoot and it was well worth it! Sarah also made multiple bouquets in various sizes with other blooms such as foxglove, ranunculus, Claire de Lune peonies, tulips, and sweet pea.

Tell us about your wedding gown and your ring.

My gown is made by Toronto-based designer Horses Atelier. My ring is vintage from the Victorian era and the stone is moss agate—it looks like a little forest! When I met with The Rose Establishment to discuss my wedding, the owner was kind enough to send me some info about the stone which made it even more special. I read that moss agate is, "a stabilizing stone strongly connected with nature, it is said to refresh the soul and enable you to see beauty in all you behold."

Do you have a favorite image or series from the bridal shoot?

I love them all but I do have a few favorites. The first was taken with my Fujifilm Instax in the lilac area (see photo below). It was funny because when the flash went off both Miesh and I sighed sadly because that usually ruins the photo, but when the photo developed we both said it reminded us of a Marc Jacobs perfume ad! I'm in love with it.

My other favorites were taken with Land Polaroid film I've had since high school (see photos below). I found the film in a desk drawer at home and thought I'd bring it to the shoot to see if it would work—it said "Best used by 2007." The colors are eerily stunning and I couldn't be happier that I brought the film for Miesh to work her magic on.
