NAMES Malissa Glines and Chad Sarno LIVE IN Austin, Texas; the bride grew up in Roosevelt, Utah OCCUPATIONS She’s a health coach and retreat planner; he’s a plant-based chef and educator. HOW THEY MET Through a health-immersion program they coordinated for Whole Foods HOW HE PROPOSED First, while camping in the redwoods with her grandma’s turquoise necklace and family heirloom. Second, while hiking in Austin with his daughter, Amaya, and a diamond ring. NUMBER OF GUESTS 80 THEIR APPROACH TO PLANNING Most of their guests were from out of state (and country!) and had never been to Utah, so they planned a full weekend of food and fun for them to enjoy. WEDDING THEME Nature, inspired by their common love for the outdoors and mountains HOW THEY MADE THE DAY THEIR OWN They started the day with a lake-side yoga class, they surprised their guests with a gondola ride up 9,000 feet to the ceremony, and they wrote their own vows. CULTURAL & FAMILY ELEMENTS She wove in her Native American heritage by getting married on the new moon and having her 90-year-old grandma perform a Native American blanket wrapping ceremony with a blessing; her parents built her an amazing tipi as part of the décor. He paid homage to his Italian roots by bringing everyone together through food; he created an all-vegan menu and Italian feast for the reception. SOMETHING OLD, NEW, BORROWED & BLUE She wore an ivory lace gown, matching custom-made lace jacket, and turquoise jewelry (her grandmother’s necklace and her mother’s bracelets). DÉCOR DETAILS Purple wildflowers (her favorite), lavender, sage, roses, foliage garlands, succulents, fresh herbs, birch-tree poles, and other natural elements RECEPTION MENU FAVORITES Truffled edamame dumplings, stuffed zucchini blossoms, and create-your-own pasta stations including fresh manicotti with the groom’s Italian Nana’s red sauce Dessert Gluten-free vanilla and chocolate cake with layers of lemon curd, strawberry, and raspberry jam with vanilla buttercream frosting FIRST DANCE “Better Together” by Jack Johnson FAVORS Organic San Marzano tomato and basil seed packets with the groom’s family red-sauce recipe, plus bars of dark chocolate and bags of herbal popcorn FAVORITE RECEPTION MOMENT When she surprised him by playing the drum with a pop-up rock band performance of Cheap Trick’s “I Want You To Want Me” THE DAY IN THREE WORDS Magical, romantic, abundant HONEYMOON A road trip through Bryce Canyon, Zion National Park, Lake Powell, the Grand Canyon, Flagstaff, Sedona, and Santa Fe.

Having people that you love from all different phases in your life come together in one area and meet each other was a pretty special and incredible feeling. It was a very cool reflection for the both of us. —Malissa & Chad
