Meet the Bridal Designer: Bree Lena
Provo Fashion Week kicks off this weekend, and the spring line-up includes two runway shows highlighting local wedding-wear designers. (Get all the deets here.) Utah's Bree Lena Wilkins is one of the featured designers and a co-producer of PFW. Her clothing line Bree Lena is a glitter fest of custom-made, party-ready threads---think glitzy gowns and casual-glam pieces like colorfully sequined pencil skirts and blazers.
Wilkins' modern, on-trend looks are a love match for brides and bridesmaids. We're currently crushing on her playful take on trendy bridal separates: a glittering gold-sequined sweatshirt paired with a frothy tulle ball-gown skirt. Fancy sweats on the big day? Sign us up.
We sat down with Wilkins (pictured below, center) to get the scoop on her latest collection and chat style, Taylor Swift, and sequins, natch. Below, check out photos of some of our favorite Bree Lena designs and scroll down for our Q&A.
Q | Where are you from and where do you live in Utah?
A | I am originally from Oklahoma; my family moved to Utah when I was 10. I currently live in Provo with my husband, but we are moving to New York City this June.
Q | How would you describe the style of Bree Lena and your design aesthetic?
A | I love creating unique pieces that are easily wearable. When a woman puts on a Bree Lena piece they should feel glamorous, classy, and gorgeous. I strive to provide clothes that light up a party and can't be found elsewhere.
Q | Tell us about your latest collection.
A | The Bree Lena collection is glamorous and sophisticated. Last fall at Provo Fashion Week, I focused on feminine details, lots of sequins, and a palette of black, cream, and gold.
Q | Do you have a favorite dress in the collection?
A | I have a few favorites, but if I had to pick just one I'd say the cream sequin wedding gown---the fabric is absolutely breathtaking.
Q | Three words that describe your designs:
A | Elegant, classy, and wearable.
Q | Are there specific fabrics, colors, or details you always include in your collections?
A | Gold and sequins.
Q | Who and what inspires your designs?
A | I'm inspired by sparkles and beaded details. I love feminine silhouettes and floral fabric manipulation.
Q | Who's your favorite fashion designer?
A | Elie Saab. His gowns are absolutely stunning.
Q | If you could dress anyone, alive or dead, who would it be?
A | Taylor Swift. She's always gravitated toward sparkly, beaded pieces when dressing up for special events.
Hear that, T Swift? You and Bree Lena are cut from the same cloth.
