Engaged! Kate Pappas & Kyle Beckerman

By Tessa Woolf October 11, 2013

It was love at first sight for today's featured couple, Kate Pappas and Kyle Beckerman. One look at their engagement photos by Matt Clayton Photography, and it's easy to see why. Major babesville. Kyle, who soccer fans will recognize from the Real Salt Lake team, met Kate four years ago and it was hook, line, sinker for the duo from the get-go. Below, check out Kate and Kyle's two-part engagement session—snapped at Rio Tinto Stadium, Kyle's home field and the location of the couple's first fateful meeting, and out and about in Utah's great outdoors. Plus, read their love story and the details of their upcoming winter wedding.

The Bride- and Groom-To-Be: Kate Pappas and Kyle Beckerman

Occupations: She's an account supervisor at Love Communications; he's the captain and a midfielder for Real Salt Lake, and a midfielder for the U.S. Men's National Soccer Team

Where They Met: At a video shoot for the United Way of Salt Lake at Rio Tinto Stadium in 2009. Kate was working the shoot and holding cue cards for Kyle. It was love at first sight. He asked for permission to call her later that day, and they've been together ever since.

Where He Proposed: Kyle got down on one knee and popped the question on a cold but sunny January day last winter while he and Kate were hiking to Ensign Peak (a hike they do often because it's near their home). She said yes. After, they kept hiking and waited to tell their friends and family for a few hours so they could cherish the moment together.

The Ring: They never went ring shopping because Kate loved the idea of Kyle putting thought into choosing something for her on his own. He chose well: a princess-cut, asscher-set center diamond surrounded by a halo of diamonds.

The Engagement Photos: Beyond the obvious that Kyle plays at Rio Tinto Stadium, the duo wanted to take engagement photos at the stadium because it's where they met. They decided to do a mountain engagement shoot, as well, because they love being outdoors and try to spend time outside whenever possible. Kyle is a big fly fisherman, so he happily brought his gear along for the shoot, and they love their canoe and thought it would be fun to include as a prop. Both locations captured them perfectly as a couple.

The Wedding: Considering Kyle's long soccer season, the couple embraced the idea of a winter wedding. They're tying the knot on January 4, 2014 at the Holy Trinity Cathedral in downtown Salt Lake City. The celebration will be a "big fat Greek wedding," as Kate puts it. Kyle's number on the soccer field is 5, so they're feeling a good omen with the numerology of their 01/04/14 wedding date.

Congrats, Kate and Kyle!
