Best Dressed: Bridal-Inspired Fashion at the Emmy Awards

By Tessa Woolf September 23, 2013

Was it just us, or did it seem like there was a whole lot of bridal inspiration happening at last night's Emmy Awards? Starlets like Claire Danes, Kerry Washington, and Julie Bowen dressed up for TV's big night in dreamy white, ivory, pastel pink, crystal blue, and rose-hued dresses. The fancy frocks would look just as stunning parading down a wedding aisle as they did on the red carpet. Below, check out our top looks of the night and styling ideas for your own moment in the spotlight.

Claire Danes in Armani Prive -  Thin, spaghetti-style straps have been making a comeback in recent bridal collections, and we love the slip-dress inspired bodice of Dane's Aramani dress. The neckline is deep, but the beige hue, delicate beading, and subtle floral print keep the look from feeling too sexy.

Emilia Clark in Donna Karan Atelier - From beads and sequins to strands of satin and lace, embellished belts are popular accessories for today's wedding gowns, but Clark takes the look a step further with her sleek silver belt. Take note, modern brides.

Julie Bowen in Zac Posen - Sound the trumpets! We're having a love affair with trumpet silhouettes this season, and Bowen's pretty-in-pink number is right up our fashion alley. Designer Zac Posen recently announced he's collaborating with David's Bridal to create a line of wedding gowns--could this dress be a sneak peek of what's to come? We can't wait until February to find out!

Kerry Washington in Marchesa - Designers Georgina Chapman and Keren Craig--the duo behind Marchesa--could pretty much make a dress out of a paper bag and the odds are good we'd fall head over heels for it. Marchesa is a no-fail choice whether you're going to the Emmys or going to the chapel.

January Jones in Givenchy - What's lovelier than a lace dress? A lace dress in a fresh rose-y hue a la Jones' sweet and simple Givenchy frock.

Julianne Hough in Jenny Packham - OK, hear us out: We don't advocate wearing a completely sheer skirt to your wedding (even if it is covered in sequins), but we dig the overall concept (and color!) of Hough's sparkling Jenny Packham gown for the big day. P.S. This off-the-shoulder neckline is another emerging trend we've recently spotted on the bridal runways.

Elisabeth Moss in Andrew GN - Black and white have always been a power couple, but the classic color pairing is currently having a moment in the sun. We love a white wedding dress worn with something black, especially for black tie weddings, natch. Need a little more inspiration? Check out the pops of black at Vera Wang's Spring 2014 bridal collection.

Taylor Schilling in Thakoon - While we're not big fans of flashing side-boob at your wedding (your grandpa will be there, after all) we do give Schilling props for picking a dress that has Old Hollywood glamor written all over it. From the elegant (and flattering) halter neckline to the thigh-high slit, this silky Thakoon number would look wowza on a Marilyn-type bride.

What do you think of our red carpet picks? Which dress from the Emmy Awards was your favorite?
