Tabletop: Get In Line

Take a cue from your closet and select patterned pieces to dress your reception tables

Michelle Cousins of Utah Events by Design recalled summer vacations to East Coast beaches when planning this fresh, striped setting. Shades of navy blue and bright white are no-brainers for nautical-inspired nuptials, but Cousins jazzed up the palette with bright orange and aqua. To make the theme appropriate for the mountains, she incorporated rustic details like a weathered wood cottage table made by her husband, Michael, and white wooden lanterns filled with candles. Striped linens placed vertically across the table anchor the design. Bold blooms including tulips, ranunculus, poppies, mini calla lilies, and roses add eye-catching color. Playing on the table’s preppy aesthetic, place cards were designed with prep-school pennants in mind, while handsewn napkin rings were fashioned after D-ring belts. The whimsical dessert display includes pumpkin and cream cheese whoopee pies, blue raspberry candy apples, slices of ombré buttercream cake, and layered sorbet, yogurt, and sherbet popsicles, plus a three-tier fondant confection dressed in horizontal stripes and topped with an edible monogram.
