Bridal Beauty: 5 Tips from BECCA Cosmetics Makeup Artist Jo Levy

By Tessa Woolf February 8, 2012

During the Sundance Film Festival a few weeks ago, I had the chance to meet with Jo Levy, a national makeup artist and educator with BECCA Cosmetics. Based in Chicago, Levy was in Park City to help beautify Hollywood celebs and share her makeup tips at The St. Regis Deer Valley's Remede Spa.

Following my heavenly Intraceuticals' Oxygen Infusion Facial at Remede Spa, I was introduced to Levy, a petite brunette with glowing skin and a bright smile. She greeted me warmly and led me to her temporary cosmetics room for a mini makeover (after all, I needed to look presentable enough to return to the office and finish my day's work). While perched on a stool, my eyes closed as Levy applied BECCA Jewel Dust to the inner corners of my eyelids, I took the opportunity to ask her about bridal makeup, and she happily shared her beauty know-how.

"The most important step in creating flawless looking bridal makeup is to make sure that your skin looks healthy and polished," she told me. "A few ways to achieve this are with a great primer, natural looking foundation, and a pretty pop of cheek color."

Below, Levy shares her top five tips and product suggestions for getting gorgeous on the big day:

Tip 1. I recommend preparing the skin for a long lasting, smoother makeup application with a primer, like BECCA Radiance Primer. The skin illuminating formula instantly brightens and revitalizes the complexion while serving as the perfect base for your makeup.

Tip 2. A tinted moisturizer like BECCA Luminous Skin Colour helps to "even out" skin tone with a sheer level of coverage while providing a soft, dewy finish on the skin.

Tip 3. I also recommend setting tinted moisturizer with mineral powder, like BECCA Mineral Powder Foundation, for a polished, medium level of coverage that allows the skin to look natural in person and flawless in photos.

Tip 4. The cheeks should be enhanced with a pretty pop of color for a healthy looking flush that shows up in photographs. Try BECCA Mineral Blush in Sweet Pea (mauve-pink). Swirl the blush onto the "apples" of the cheeks and blend outward towards the temples.

Tip 5. Keep the eyes well defined yet bright by lining only the top of the lash line with a waterproof pencil or gel. Be sure to dash the liner close into the lash line and flick out a bit at the end of the eye for a "kitten eye" effect. I love BECCA Automatic Eye Liner in Majorca, the perfect, rich shade of ebony--best yet, it's waterproof!

Thanks Jo!

I'm adding a sixth tip/product to Levy's list: BECCA Butter Balm. I haven't been able to put down my sleek silver tube of Butter Balm since I snagged one during my makeover with Levy. The lip conditioner is infused with Tahitian vanilla, shea butter, cocoa butter, honey and vitamin E--just what the doctor ordered for soft, kissable lips on your wedding day.

A big thank you to Jo Levy with BECCA Cosmetics for sharing these bridal beauty tips!
