Dress of the Week: Reem Acra "Orchid" Wedding Gown

By Tessa Woolf September 14, 2011

Last week I stopped by Gateway Bridal in downtown Salt Lake City to catch up with boutique owner Nicole Thomas. While walking through her frock-filled shop, I noticed a beautiful gown on a hanger outside a dressing room. A bride-to-be had just tried it on, and from behind the drawn curtain she was gushing about the gown to her mom.

I asked Nicole about this particular wedding dress, and she smiled--as though she'd been asked about it a hundred times before--and said, "Oh yes, that's Orchid. She's extremely popular with brides."

Nicole wasn't lying--InStyle.com recently named Orchid one of the most popular wedding dresses of 2011. And I can see why.

The silk organza gown--designed by Reem Acra--is softly elegant and subtly beautiful. No loud embellishments or flashy bling on this frock. Just a great silhouette accented with a sweet champagne-hued belt at the waist. This gown is suited for brides of all seasons, but I particularly like it for fall brides (especially when paired with a little lace shrug).

And here's your fun fact for the day: singer Taylor Swift wore "Orchid" for the wedding scene in her music video "Mine."
