The Bride Wore Boat Shoes: Southern Utah Bridal Session by Mikki Platt Photography

By Tessa Woolf March 29, 2011

I have always been a bit of a tomboy at heart, so when I spotted this bridal session by Milki Platt Photography I instantly fell head over heels (er, flats). The bride, Ashley, has a fun, casual style--check out her boat shoes, her yarn ball bouquet and her funky floral head band, all paired with a beautiful gown--oh, and her handsome groom Steve in his handsome suit. And Southern Utah's stunning red rock backdrop to boot.

Photographer Mikki Platt shares details of the couple and the bridal shoot:

Ashley is not your typical bride...she just wanted to tie the knot and call it good as far as celebrations go, but agreed to do some of the traditional things. She didn't want real flowers, but instead had a bouquet made with balls of yarn. Sperry Top-Siders were the perfect touch for her look; simple and comfortable. She's played soccer her whole life, so she's got that tomboy-flair going on, but she doesn't fool me--she's a total knock-out with killer style!

For the location of the photo shoot, we wanted something simple and stunning. Steve's grandma lives in Southern Utah and he thought it would be perfect to incorporate a 1910 treasured trunk from his grandma's collection in the shoot, and off-road through the red dirt to capture the red hill backdrop of St. George. It's so beautiful and we wanted to embrace the amazing look, so we went for it. I love the desert scape mixed with their simple elegance--and we got lucky with some awesome light, too.

Ashley and Steve were married last week on March 25--congratulations you two!

Thank you Mikki Platt for sharing this bridal session!
