The Future Looks Bright

When you think of chic mountain-town style, images of designer denim, cashmere knits, and elevated but understated pieces—a la Gwyneth Paltrow’s much-discussed “quiet luxury” wardrobe from her recent Park City ski trial—likely pop into your head. But Camilla Schmitt, the owner of new-ish boutique Chammomile (825 Main St, Ste A2, 801-337-9229), is changing all that with bright, pattern-happy clothing by of-the-moment brands such as Ganni, Stine Goya, Ulla Johnson, and many others.
“I love all of our brands,” says Schmitt, noting she wears a lot of Rachel Comey and Sea New York for everyday dressing. “Chammomile is a carefully curated collection of high-quality, colorful, and comfortable clothing, footwear, jewelry, and fragrances represented by US and European brands.”
Originally from the East Coast, Schmitt moved to Salt Lake City from Stowe, Vermont, in the fall of 2021. “I moved to be near family and experience a different, sunnier part of the country,” she says. After working in a corporate IT career for more than 30 years, she decided it was time to be her own boss. She opened her first boutique, Chammomile in Stowe, in June 2019 but sold it a few months before opening the Park City version of Chammomile in December 2021.
The shop’s refreshing selection of bold and beautiful blazers, blouses, dresses, and more are a welcome departure from the popular, neutral-hued palettes that have dominated wardrobes in recent years—and are sure to provide an extra dose of excitement to the daily task of getting dressed. Current fashion trends Schmitt favors include wide-leg pants, velvet shoes, gold chains with charms, and socks worn with sandals—a once-perceived faux pas that has become stylish. But a trend she’d like to see fade away? “I would advise people not to wear black leggings and sneakers every day!”
