Visit Best Friends Roadhouse for Summer Fun and Furry Friends

Summertime is full of warm weather and long days meant for discovery and adventure. If you’re looking for something unique to add to your summer itinerary this year, look no further than a road trip to the stunning city of Kanab. This small town is just a short distance from Zion National Park and is home to natural landscapes unlike any other.
Whether you’re looking to get outside and explore the many local trails, hike and experience the spectacular Sand Caves, learn more about the area at one of the several local museums, or discover some of America’s most unique national monuments, Kanab has plenty of opportunities for an exciting summer vacation.

But one of the greatest parts about a summer getaway is the rest to be had. Best Friends Roadhouse and Mercantile is one of the best options for a retreat after your daily explorations. It’s especially ideal for pet owners and animal lovers!
Located in the heart of Kanab, The Best Friends Roadhouse and Mercantile is an extension of the longstanding hospitality experienced at Best Friends Animal Sanctuary, which is also the headquarters of Best Friends Animal Society. This leading national animal welfare organization has locations in various cities around the United States, with a mission to end the killing of dogs and cats in America's shelters.

With 40 cozy rooms, as well as many dog-and cat-friendly amenities and services available (such as built-in cubbies for snuggling, dog washing stations, and a fenced dog park area), guests are welcome to bring up to four pets at no charge. You can even bring a dog or cat from the Sanctuary for an overnight sleepover!
Summer at the Roadhouse is especially fun, too. There are free summer concerts every Saturday night starting after Memorial Day weekend. In addition, guests can tap into their inner ‘zen’ and partake in free yoga sessions at the Roadhouse each Saturday morning during the summer.

While you’re at the Roadhouse, you can journey just five miles down the road to the Sanctuary to volunteer or experience several tours that offer heartwarming interactions with dogs, cats, pigs, goats, horses, bunnies, and more.
Both the Sanctuary and Roadhouse are award-winning at Best of Southern Utah (Best Nonprofit, Best Place to Volunteer) and Best of State Utah (Best Attraction, Best Boutique Lodging) in 2025. Not to mention, Angel's Village Cafe, located at the Sanctuary, recently won 2025 Best Vegan/Vegetarian Restaurant at Best of State Utah.

"Summer is such a great time to come to stay at Best Friends Roadhouse and Mercantile,” said Julie Barger, director of visitor experience at Best Friends Animal Society. “We have a lot of fun activities…plus the stargazing is amazing. It's also a wonderful time to take a free tour or volunteer at the Sanctuary and if you're in the market for a new best friend, there are three adoption areas where you can take home a dog or cat the same day. That's the best souvenir anyone could ask for!"
