The big three—you read that right, three—will start spinning their chairlifts in quick succession over the next couple of weeks. First up, Park City Mountain (PCM) projects an opening date of this Friday, Nov. 22. Deer Valley Resort (DV) rolls out its 2019-2020 season along with Shred For Red, benefiting the Leukemia Lymphoma Society Utah, on Dec. 7. And Woodward Park City—the buzzed-about new kid on the block—is gearing up for a Grand Opening on Dec. 14.

Just like opening day last year (pictured here), Park City Mountain is set to roll out the ol' first-chair-of-the-season banner.

The Resorts

PCM, parkcitymountain.com, anticipates kicking off the season this weekend with opening day music and morning sips and bites—and the main event, skiing and snowboarding; the Park City base opens Nov. 22 and Canyons Village base is slated to open Nov. 23. A week later, the resort hosts a post-Thanksgiving tree lighting ceremony (Nov. 29) at Canyons Village featuring holiday crafts, a visit from Santa, and fireworks.

Shred For Red, benefiting The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, returns to Deer Valley Resort for the 2019-2020 opening, Dec. 7.

DV, deervalley.com, is opening its season on Dec. 7 while simultaneously hosting the second annual Shred For Red, lls.org/shredforred, a fundraiser dedicated to eradicating blood cancers. Shred for Red participants (who raise more than $300 for the cause) dive into fun, on-mountain and off-slopes challenges as well as skiing, hobnobbing with Olympians, and toasting the fundraiser's success with an après-ski celebration.

At the site of what was formerly Gorgoza Park, POWDR is on the brink of rolling out a sports campus spanning all manner of indoor/outdoor action on Dec. 14. On tap for the new 125-acre Woodward Park City, woodwardparcity.com: tubing, skiing, snowboarding, BMX, cheer, trampolines, ramps, parkour, digital media, and more. The campus's model is a progressive one, which caters to all levels of athletes. For example, terrain park newbies can get a taste of the action on the Start Park and eventually work their way up to a 22-foot halfpipe. And for those who lament Gorgoza's passing, there will be 10 (or more) tubing lanes. A 66,000-square-foot indoor facility with all the full-throttle accoutrements of action sports (think trampolines, foam pits, spring floor, skateboard/BMX-like concrete park features ...) accompanies the extensive, outdoor amenities. Daily lift tickets to Woodward will cost $50; and a month-long, all-access membership is $100.

Park City Mountain's opening day festivities begin, Nov. 22 at 8 a.m. in the Park City Mountain Village with live music, giveaways and complimentary donuts and hot chocolate. The traditional first chair will leave at 9 a.m. on the Payday lift followed by a ceremonial banner-breaking. Canyons Village is scheduled to open Nov. 23.

Deer Valley Resort's opening day and Shred for Red fundraiser takes place on Dec. 7

Woodward Park City's Grand Opening on December 14, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., includes an open house, along with experiential activity tours, lift-served skiing and snowboarding, tubing, athlete demos, and a celebrity deejay guest performance. Participation in activities carries a $20 entry fee (benefiting local environmental nonprofits).
