Following in the hoofprints of the buffalo of yesteryear, the cows are back this summer, acting as four-legged lawnmowers and weed killers for the city’s open space surrounding McPolin Farm—and no, according to city Environmental Sustainability Manager Luke Cartin, their methane emissions don’t outweigh the eco-benefits.

A pair of nonprofits are kicking up Old Town construction dust as the Egyptian Theatre buffs out its new Black Box Theatre, YouTheatre, and event space (a 9,000-foot expansion, via a tunnel under Main Street), while NPR-affiliated radio station KPCW plans to nearly double the size of its digs on Swede Alley by the time the snow flies (fear not: liquor store access, below, won’t be obstructed).

Technology is chipping its way into Deer Valley Resort’s operations, as the ski-only, repeatedly no. 1–ranked resort joins its industry brethren by implementing RFID (radio-frequency identification) into passes—which means Ikon skiers need not waste time at the ticket window this winter.

Rather than sinking staff resources into collecting overdue fees, the Park City Library jumped on the fine-free train last November, resulting in increased visits and timely returns of books and materials—though if you drop that book in the bathtub, there are still fiscal consequences.

Forget that carbon-spewing car and hit the paved pathways this summer, aided by a new color-coded wayfinding system that lays out walkable and bikeable routes and indicates distance and estimated time to destinations—all the way from Summit Park to Deer Valley and everywhere in between.
