The Lodge at Blue Sky Offers a Luxurious Western Retreat

Cruising along Old Lincoln Highway through the sleepy town of Wanship, you’d never guess there’s a luxury resort tucked away on a 3,500-acre private ranch behind the surrounding mountains. That is, until you arrive at a large gate and are greeted by a friendly, welcoming face. Once granted entry, you continue winding up the mountain past a large, barn-like structure (formerly an indoor riding arena, now a popular wedding venue) and past the High West Whiskey Distillery (offering tours, private tastings, and dining at the on-site Refectory), before finally arriving at your destination: The Lodge at Blue Sky, part of the lauded Auberge Resorts Collection.

The swanky retreat is among the Wasatch Back’s most luxurious, named one of Fodor’s Finest Hotels for 2025 and recently voted the top resort in Utah by Travel + Leisure. And while the amenities and service at The Lodge at Blue Sky are top-notch, what truly sets it apart from other posh properties in Park City is a reverence for the surrounding natural landscape, evident in everything from the minimal, mindful design (all accommodations are situated to ensure privacy and mountain views, for example) to the array of exclusive guest experiences that make the most of the great outdoors.
The heart of the resort is the Sky Lodge, which houses 19 rooms and suites; a cozy bar/lounge area for guests 21 and older; and the restaurant Yuta, helmed by Executive Chef Guillermo Tellez, serving elevated mountain cuisine, seafood, and an excellent wine list. Blue Sky’s on-site Gracie’s Farm provides much of the produce for Yuta, and the creative menu changes seasonally. During our visit, we devoured a spread of caviar hash browns, shrimp-stuffed squash blossoms, roasted Gracie’s beets, lobster tortellini, lavender-dusted duck, and Wagyu tenderloin. Pro tip: order dessert to go, and enjoy it in the comfort of your room (while wearing sweatpants).

Additional accommodations include the Earth Suites, a three-minute walk from the lodge, featuring a private terrace with an outdoor fireplace, as well as an outdoor shower. For the ultimate privacy, book one of the freestanding Creek Houses: These adults-only, one-bedroom suites have more space, a soaking tub, and a terrace overlooking Alexander Creek, which runs through the property.
For families traveling with little ones, special attention is given to children to ensure their stay at The Lodge at Blue Sky is as delightful as their parents’. Tots are greeted with a horse stuffed animal, and there’s a small toy/reading room in the main lodge for playtime. Cribs, rollaway beds, and sleeping teepees are available on request (my toddler was delighted by the latter), and all meals from the well-rounded kids menu are complimentary (for guests 10 and under). Kiddos can also enjoy family yoga, hikes, and trail rides, or excursions with the Little Vaqueros Club, such as treasure hunts, collecting eggs, grooming horses, and other daily themed activities (for ages 5 to 12; offered June 1–October 31).

For adults, if it’s an adventure you seek, The Lodge at Blue Sky has them in spades. Winter guest excursions include snowmobiling, dog sledding, fat tire snow biking, Nordic skiing, and more. Guests also gain access to the Blue Sky Ski Lounge at Park City Mountain Resort. In the warmer months, try your hand at sporting clays, go on a 4x4 expedition, take a horseback ride to the resort’s 1800s-era tavern, or hike with a wildlife biologist.
After a day of recreation, head to the Edge Spa to rest and rejuvenate. The on-site sanctuary features five treatment rooms, an outdoor heated plunge pool, and a cozy relaxation lounge outfitted with plush chairs, locally made teas, and healthy nibbles. Spacious men’s and women’s facilities are equipped with a sauna, steam room, and large showers. The spa menu includes indulgent massages, facials, and body treatments, but what makes the Edge unique is a focus on overall wellness. Products used at the spa are made with wild-harvested ingredients, and guided meditation, cold plunge, sound baths, tea ceremonies, master numerology readings, and indoor/outdoor yoga classes are all available. Before you turn in for the day, take a dip in the lodge’s outdoor infinity pool and hot tub, or gather around the fire on the communal terrace to roast s’mores, sip a nightcap, and gaze up at the starry night sky—mountain living at its finest.
