In March 2020, Lisa Clive Ward and Jeff Ward were preparing to celebrate a 10th anniversary. No, it wasn’t a wedding anniversary—they’d already been married for far longer than a decade. Rather, it had been 10 years since the opening of the husband-and-wife team’s Park City eatery, the Silver Star Café (1825 Three Kings Dr, 435-655-3456).
Of course, we all know what happened next: Covid-19 forced restaurants to close, at least temporarily, and celebrations to be postponed. “We toasted the restaurant’s 10th anniversary at home with a glass of wine during shutdown,” says Lisa. She doesn’t dismiss the stress and challenges of keeping a business afloat during a pandemic. But she and Jeff are also extremely grateful for the support they have received not just since the shutdown, but from the time they opened Silver Star Café. “We really couldn’t have done this without the support of our community,” says Lisa.
Silver Star is the type of place where customers are made to feel like family and where the owners, the staff, and even the musicians who perform there treat each other as family, as well. It is a wholesome, welcoming vibe that just can’t be faked. Not surprisingly, the food at Silver Star provides feelings of comfort, too. The cuisine is excellent but approachable, with dishes that range from hearth-fired pizzas and a spicy honey-sambal chicken sandwich to blackened shrimp with polenta and vegetarian wild mushroom stroganoff.
Now that things are somewhat returning to normal, the Wards are looking forward to an exciting summer, with happy customers both indoors and on the patio, live music nights, and the killer food that impressed Guy Fieri when he featured the café on his TV show Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives. Suffice it to say, Silver Star Café is deliciously local in flavor.
