If you're like me, half the fun of hitting the trail and going on adventures is the meal that comes before, after, and during the excursion. There's no shortage of sugary concoctions available when it come to trail snacks, but if you're looking to fuel your day with something slightly healthier, we recommend heading to one of these Park City locations. 

Fairweather Natural Foods

Ground zero for healthy snack options, Fairweather Natural Foods (1270 Iron Horse Dr, 435.649.4561) offers an array of holistic choices, including an organic juice bar, grab 'n' go salads, and vegan, gluten-free, organic baked goods perfect for packing on the trail. Before you head out on your adventure, order a protein packed smoothie made from whey, soy, hemp, rice, or a plant fusion and add everything from nutritional powerhouse spirulina to açaí, peanut butter, and ginseng. Their menu also features homemade vegan soups and salads and grabbing a combo meal here will cost you less than $15 so we definitely recommend stopping back for lunch.

Moose Café at Summit Park

Anyone exploring the tree shaded trails of Summit Park needs to stop by the Moose Café (185 Aspen Dr, 435.200.8493). For quick fuel, grab one of their signature Power Moose Smoothies packed with quinoa, chia, and flaxseed plus your choice of fruits, veggies, and nuts from a long list that includes spinach, kale, blueberries, raspberries, strawberries, blackberries, green apple, pineapple, almonds, pecans, and prunes. Open daily from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m., it's also a perfect place to grab breakfast before you go or satiate your hunger afterwards. Choose from hearty breakfasts, including huevos rancheros, pancakes, omelettes, French crepes, and more. Healthy sandwiches, salads, and bomb Mexican dishes, and rotating specials are all available for lunch.

The Deer Valley Snack Shack in Silver Lake Village is famed for their jumbo cookies and ice cream sandwiches, but if you're careful you can walk a way with a relatively healthy snack assortment.

Spending your day at Deer Valley? Pop into the Silver Lake Snack Shack (7600 Royal St, 435.649.1000) in the Silver Lake Village for a pre- or post-hike/ride bite. Strictly speaking, this might not be the healthiest option if you grab the irresistible Jumbo Cookie or Turkey Chili Nachos, but they do have a freshly made wraps, energy bars, and whole fruit available as well. The shack is open daily this summer from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. through Labor Day, then weekends only through September 17, 2017.

The Stickies from the Samak Smokehouse

The journey to Samak Smoke House & Country Store (1937 E Mirror Lake Hwy, 435.783.4880) in Kamas, just a little more than 15 miles from Park City on the Mirror Lake Highway, is half the fun. The pleasant aroma of smoked meats hangs in the air inside this old-timey, rough-hewn log-cabin roadside stop. Specialties include heavenly wild salmon and beef jerky, smoked trout, cherry wood–smoked cheddar, enormous made-to-order sandwiches, and locally famous “Samak Stickies”—granola bars made with peanut butter and honey. Stock up for home or a day of exploring just up the road in the Uinta Mountains. (Tip: You can also find Samak Stickies on Main Street, Park City at Atticus Coffee & Teahouse.)
