Park City Weekend Agenda: June 7–9

Summer is in full swing with D-Day Remembrance festivities, a Monster Drawing Rally, an International Ocean Film Festival—and live concerts aplenty, including (but not limited to) Rickie Lee Jones and Air Supply.

Utah Olympic Park Summer Attractions

From learning about the Utah Olympic Park’s unique sporting heritage in the free museum to taking a ride-of-a-lifetime on the summer bobsled experience, Utah Olympic Park offers activities for all. The park’s summer experiences include the extreme zip line, zip line tour, alpine slide, drop tower, adventure courses and scenic chairlift rides (of note: not all activities are open early season). Early season hours 10 a.m.–6 p.m. daily. The Flying Ace All-Star Freestyle shows start June 22.

Park City Mountain Resort Summer Activties (Early Season Hours)

Check out a variety of adventures for guests of virtually any age. Hold on for the drops and turns of the alpine coaster, discover the mountain’s hiking and biking trails (albeit, many of the trails are still too muddy and snowy to ride), or watch your family reach new heights in the Adventure Park. Early season hours 10 a.m.–6 p.m. daily.

Park City Museum 

Friday-Saturday, 10 a.m.–7 p.m; Sunday noon–6 @ Park City Museum

Explore Park City’s rich mining history through interactive and educational exhibits that take you into a mine shaft and old-time jail. Children can complete a “Park City History Detectives” activity, digging deeper into the past.

D-Day Remembrance Week

Through Sunday @ Heber City’s Commemorative Air Force Museum, 9 a.m.—4 p.m. (plus special pancake breakfast and swing dance Saturday evening)

Join the Utah Wing of the Commemorative Air Force Museum in honoring the 75th Anniversary of D-Day (June 3–9). The event features North American T-6 honor flights and rides, B-17 static display, live music, food trucks, kids’ activities, and more. Don't miss Saturday's pancake breakfast (8–10 a.m.) and evening swing dance with the Danny Newell Band (6–10 p.m.). Proceeds benefit the museum.

Five seasoned scientists share a single set of rules that apply to all forms of life discovered in some of the most remote and spectacular places on Earth, from the Serengeti to the Amazon. “One of the most important but untold science stories of our time,” according to presenting non-profit Park City Film, "The Serengeti Rules" explores the possibilities and implications of our actions on the future life of our planet. Post-film Q&A via Skype with director Nicholas Brown on Sunday night.

Rickie Lee Jones

Witness American legend and two-time Grammy Award winner Rickie Lee Jones perform her singular blend of jazz and rock on the intimate Egyptian stage.

Thursday, June 6

 75th Anniversary D-Day Commemoration

 9 a.m.–4 p.m.@ Heber City Airport

Venture to Heber City's airport for an event commemorating D-Day with honor flights and rides on North American T-6, a B-17 static display and tours, dancing with the Danny Newell Swing Dance Band, delicious food trucks, WWII re-enactments and vehicles, and more. All proceeds benefit the Utah Wing of the Commemorative Air Force Museum. 

International Ocean Film Tour, Volume 6

7 p.m. @ Park City Library

Immerse yourself in ocean adventure with 120 minutes of the best environmental documentaries celebrating marine life.

Monster Drawing Rally

6–9 p.m. @ Kimball Art Center

Experience the creative process up close and personal at one of Park City’s favorite out-of-the-box parties. Local artists take shifts drawing and creating collage, watercolor, acrylic, graphite, and other art for 50 minutes, and then sell their impromptu masterpieces for $50 each. Tickets $20 in advance, $25 at the door.

Friday, June 7

Air Supply

 8 p.m. @ DeJoria Center

From '80s hits “Making Love Out Of Nothing At All” and “Even The Nights Are Better” to “Lonely in the Night,” a live performance from Air Supply will not disappoint.

Spock Block

10 p.m. @ The Spur Bar & Grill

Groove into the weekend with out-of-this-world rock. 21+

Poor Man’s Whiskey

9 p.m. @ O.P. Rockwell

Poor Man's Whiskey's brings the traditional acoustic instruments of banjo, guitar, and mandolin in a psychedelic bluegrass interpretation of Pink Floyd's "Dark Side of the Moon." 21+

Saturday, June 8

Round Valley Rambler

8 a.m. start @ Round Valley

The first race in Mountain Trail's Foundation's "Triple Trail Challenge," this half marathon kicks off summer as runners cruise through preserved open space.

Saturday Morning Nature Walk

8:30–10 a.m. @ Swaner EcoCenter

Discover the Swaner Preserve with a guided nature tour, navigating the wetlands while learning about the diverse plant and animal species found in its grasses and waters.  Keep your eyes peeled for an abundance of birds, elk, and perhaps a nesting sandhill crane.  $10 per person, $5 locals, free for Swaner members.

The Dirty Dash

8 a.m. @ Soldier Hollow

Get stuck into this muddy, fun-filled 5K run.

Geocache Open House

10:30 a.m. @ Swaner EcoCenter

Geocaching is a real world, outdoor treasure-hunting game for all ages using GPS-enabled devices. Learn how to use a GPS, make geocache swag, and head out to find the seven geocaches located on the Preserve. Free.

Indoor Climbing Wall

 1–3 p.m. @ Swaner EcoCenter

Kids of all ages can find fun at Swaner EcoCenter’s indoor climbing wall—and a host of eco-friendly exhibits to peruse when they need a breather. Harnesses supplied; please wear shoes with covered toes. Free for members. Fee for non-members. 

1940’s Swing Dance Party

6–10 p.m. @ The Heber City Airport

Danny Newell Tribute Band will get you on your feet. Swing Dance lessons available for those who need a hand. 

Lake Effect

10 p.m. @ The Spur Bar & Grill

Thanks to a medley of instruments and honey smooth vocals, this band gets the party started. 21+

Sunday, June 9

Park Silly Sunday Market

10 a.m.–5 p.m. @ Historic Main Street

Bike, scooter, or ride the bus up to Main Street for an eco-friendly, open-air market and street festival. Enjoy eclectic local and regional arts and crafts, music and performance art, antiques, imports and one-of-a-kind finds, delicious gourmet foods, and farmers market fruits and vegetables.

Avian Adventures 2

 7–9 a.m. @ Swaner Nature Preserve

Don’t miss the second of four birding tours on the Swaner Preserve. Join legendary Utah birder Lenny Frisch on an early morning excursion identifying a variety of local and migratory birds. Wear hiking shoes or boots that can get wet. Binoculars provided, or bring your own. $10 for members; $20 for non-members.  Register at
