Park City Weekend Agenda: February 21-24, 2019

Events—and snow—continue to pile up in Park City. So, bundle up and venture out this weekend for an array of happenings, from Grammy-winning acoustic stylings and snowshoe tours to art strolls and partying à la the Oscars. Cheers!

Thursday–Saturday, Feb. 21-23, 8 p.m.; Sunday, Feb. 24, 6 p.m. @ The Egyptian Theatre

Settle in for the evening with three-time, Grammy-winning Shawn Colvin, who returns to the iconic theater with her trademark guitar-driven tunes and spellbinding vocals. The storyteller/musician comes to the Old Town stage with fodder from a dozen albums—everything from her ’90s breakthrough hit “Sunny Came Home” to her most recent album, “The Starlight.” parkcityshows.com

Oscar-Nominated Short Films Screening

Friday and Saturday, Feb. 22-23, 8 p.m.; Sunday, Feb. 24, 6 p.m. @ Park City Library

Fans of bite-sized film can dive into three nights of shorts—animated (Friday), live action (Saturday) and documentary (Sunday)—as the film series rolls out the contenders, just in time for The Academy Awards. parkcityfilm.org

 Nature’s Ninjas

@ Swaner EcoCenter, Wed-Sun 10 a.m.-4 p.m.

Meet live animals, from geckos to porcupines, in this traveling exhibit, which uncovers some of nature’s wildest defensive adaptations. While you’re at the EcoCenter, check out the permanent environmentally-inspired exhibits—and don’t miss the climbing wall on Saturdays and Sundays, from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. swanerecocenter.org

Cold Places: Photographs by Sue Flood

@ Kimball Art Center, 10 a.m. daily through April 7

Catch a glimpse through photographer Sue Flood’s lens as we are immersed in the stunning grandeur and drama of Earth’s coldest places, Antarctica and the Arctic. Capturing everything from penguins to vast wilderness, she explores nature in a changing climate. And don’t miss the accompanying Café Gallery exhibit: “Paul Crow: On Ice.” kimballartcenter.org.

Somm 3 Screening and Pre-Film Wine Tasting

Vino and film? We’re in. Park City Film Series decants the third documentary in the filmmaker Jason Wise’s SOMM series, which continues to unravel the sommelier-centered, old-world-wine-experts-versus-new-upstarts theme. 21+ for sipping.  President’s Day School Break Film Series

4 p.m. @ Park City Library

 Mosey over to the library for a flick and popcorn (both complimentary) that the whole clan will enjoy. Thursday’s screening will particularly appeal to soccer fans, “Pelé: Birth of a Legend.” parkcityfilm.org

Artificial Light at Night

7 p.m. @ Swaner EcoCenter

Learn about the dark side of light pollution—its effects on migratory birds, pollinators, predators, marine ecosystems, and air quality. Jess Cleeves of the Utah chapter of the International Dark Sky Association and Tracy Aviary partner with Swaner EcoCenter for this evening of discovery. Space is limited. swanerecocenter.org

Last Friday Gallery Stroll

6 - 9 p.m. @ Historic Main Street (and beyond)

Dive into the local art scene with The Last Friday Gallery Stroll. Your wander can begin at any of the 18 participating galleries sprinkled within easy walking distance. The free event includes light refreshments and diverse collection of local-to-international works in a variety of genres.

Avalanche Dog Meet and Greet

5:30 p.m. @ Park City Mountain

Pop by either base area to meet Park City Mountain’s fluffy heroes and enjoy complimentary s’mores and family-friendly après activities. parkcitymountain.com

 President’s Day School Break Film Series

4 p.m. @ Park City Library

 Super heroes unite! Grab the whole clan and mosey over to the library for a free screening of “Incredibles 2.” Enjoy complimentary popcorn, too.  parkcityfilm.org

Snowshoe Tour

8:30 a.m. @ Swaner Preserve

Strap on a pair of snowshoes for a guided, nature tour through this 1,200-acre preserve. Keep an eye out for animal tracks while you make your own. Terrain is mostly flat and accessible to all ages. Snowshoes rentals are available. swanerecocenter.org

Oscar Party

6 p.m. @ Park City Library

Walk the red carpet while supporting non-profit, art house cinema. Park City Film throws a soirée in honor of The Academy Awards with drinks, bites, Oscar trivia (with prizes), and a silent auction—followed by Oscar-Nominated documentary shorts on the big screen. parkcityfilm.org

Weekend Wine Series: Wines to Order in Barcelona

6 p.m. @ Silver Baron Lodge
