Sundance in the fall

This time of year, you can't go wrong with a day trip to Sundance Resort, especially in the height of autumn when the area lights up in a striking display of reds and golds. Just like Park City, you'll find a plethora of trails perfect for end-of-season jaunts on foot or wheels. Take a drive along the scenic Alpine Loop (Utah Hwy. 92), savor the crisp fall air, and snap a photo of the always magnificent Mt. Timpanogos. For extra points, round out your excursion with any of the following cultural offerings.

Hog & Beer at the Foundry Grill

October 6 @ 5:30 p.m.

Celebrate the glorious culinary combination of pork and beer with a special evening at the Foundry Grill. Sundance and Uinta Brewing team up to offer guests a chance to sample tasty hors d'oeuvres and local pours followed by a 3-course dinner with, you guessed, beer pairings. Tickets for the dinner are $120/person and include gratuity, paired beers, tasting pours and dinner. More info here

Owl Bar Live Music

Fridays and Saturdays through October 27

The summer concerts might be over, but you can still groove out to live shows every weekend at Sundance. Cozy up with a cocktail at the Owl Bar to enjoy performances from local and national acts like Tony Holiday and the Velvetones, Red Desert Ramblers, and others. If you're looking for a mellow Halloween, stop by on October 31 for Owl'O'Ween with Christian Mills Band.

Art Studio Live Demonstrations

October 13 & 27 @ 12 - 5 p.m.

Get in touch with your creative side at the Sundance Art Studio. Classes in pottery, drawing, painting, jewelry, journal making, and soap making are available daily by appointment. Or if you'd rather watch the pros at work, head over to the studio for live demonstrations on October 13 with local encaustic artist Shari Lyon and October 27 with Seattle-based painter Erica Elan Ciganek.

Nancy Koehn will speak about her new book Forged in Crisis: The Power of Courageous Leadership in Turbulent Times on November 3.

Sundance Author Series

November 3 @ 11:30 a.m.

The final installment of the annual Sundance Author Series spotlights Harvard Business School historian Nancy Koehn and her latest book Forged in Crisis: The Power of Courageous Leadership in Turbulent Times. Through historical narrative, Koehn offers insights into the leadership of five "masters of crisis": polar explorer Ernest Shackleton; President Abraham Lincoln; legendary abolitionist Frederick Douglass; Nazi-resisting clergyman Dietrich Bonhoeffer; and environmental crusader Rachel Carson. Tickets are $85/person and include admission to the lecture, a signed copy of the book, and brunch at the Tree Room; Advance reservations are required.

Redford Film Series

November 16, 23, & 30 @ 7 p.m.

It's hard to describe just how much influence Robert Redford has had on Utah and Park City in particular. Celebrate the man behind the iconic Sundance Film Festival with the free Redford Film Series. Screenings this year include The Way We Were (Nov. 16), Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid (Nov. 23), and Jeremiah Johnson (Nov. 30).

While its worth visiting the resort through October and November, remember that the final day of fall operations for lift-served hiking and biking is October 7. The resort will, however, be offering Halloween-themed lift rides and ZipTours Monday through Saturday in the evenings from October 18th to the 31st.
