As we head into August and the tail end of the season, the summer film series are having their last hurrah with more throwback films, a drive-in feature, and more. Here's where to go and what to see when you're in need of a relaxing night at the movies. 

Park City Film Series

The Park City Film Series concludes their Throwback Tuesdays summer film series with three family-friendly flicks perfect for a relaxing evening. They've also teamed up with Park City SUP, Basin Recreation, and Prospector Square Property Owners Association to bring you an authentic drive-in experience. 

Throwback Tuesdays

Screenings are free and begin at 7 p.m. at the Park City Library. 

Tuesday, August 7 - Bill and Ted's Excellent Adventure (PG)

A fun, brainless, comedy about two wanna-be rockstar teens who, assisted by a time-machine, set out to create the ultimate historical presentation and improve their grades. 

 

Tuesday, August 14 - Clue (PG)

A mystery comedy based on the game of the same name, this film sees six guests, the butler, and the maid team up to solve a murder.

Tuesday, August 21 -  Honey I Shrunk the Kids (PG)

A whacky scientist accidentally shrinks his children down to the size of insects. The kids face a series of obstacles in their attempt to find their dad and return to normal size.

August 11 - International Ocean Film Tour (Vol. 5)

Lot (1920 Prospector Ave) opens at 7 p.m., film starts at dusk ~8:45 p.m., tickets are $15

Relive the classic summer pastime of a drive-in movie with a presentation of the International Ocean Film Tour's 5th voyage. The event features numerous inspiring stories based at sea and the best of this year's water sports action. Don't wait until the screening starts to arrive. Ahead of the event, there will be live music, demos from Onewheel, and plenty of great giveaways from Park City SUP. Space is limited to 35 cars, though patrons can also bring blankets and low back chairs for seating on the grass. In case of inclement weather, the film will be moved to Park City Library (1255 Park Ave); updates available via Facebook event page. 

Sundance Summer Film Series

A great way to get in on the famous fest without the frenzy, join the Sundance Institute for free, outdoor screenings of old classics, audience favorites, and recent selections from the Sundance Film Festival. Movies start at dusk, but we recommend going early to get the good spots. 

August 4 - Red Dog: True Blue @ City Park, Park City

This Australian comedy follows the adventures of a young boy, Mick, who is shipped out to the Australian outback to live with his grandfather. While there, Mick finds a scrappy pup and the two quickly become each other's worlds. Bring your four-legged friends out for this dog-friendly screening, mingle with local dog care businesses (pre-show), and make a donation of kitty litter, food, or paper towels to non-profit animal rescue Nuzzles & Co. 

August 9 - Me, Earl, and the Dying Girl @ DeJoria Center, Kamas

Winner of the 2015 Sundance Grand Jury Prize, Me, Earl, and the Dying Girl, follows high school senior Greg who wants to make it through his final year with as little social interaction as possible. He prefers to spend his time secretly making films with his only friend Earl. But when his mom forces him to befriend a classmate with leukemia, both his friendship and anonymity threaten to fall apart.

Ahead of the film, Mountain Town Music is offering a free concert featuring the Dusty Boxers. Gates open at 5:30 p.m., music starts at 6:30 p.m. 

August 22 - Seeing Allred @ Red Butte Garden, Salt Lake City

Dive into the world of Gloria Allred, one of the world's foremost women's rights attorneys as she takes on the biggest fights of her career: facing off with Bill Cosby and Donald Trump. You can show your support for women's rights by wearing all red to the event. Audience members can also register to vote on site and find out more about local organizations helping empower women in the political arena.

The final Sundance summer film will be screened on August 29 and it's up to you to decide which film will be screened. You can vote online or at any of the screenings for one of the following films: Patti Cake$, The Witch, Bottle Rocket, Hedwig and the Angry Inch, or Whiplash.

Metro Summer Kids Movies

Catch the last couple screenings of the Metro Summer Kids Movies series at Redstone Shopping Center. A great way to entertain your kids on the cheap, tickets are just $2 and the movies family-friendly. 

August 7 - The Peanuts Movie

Snoopy takes on a nemesis while Charlie Brown attempts to win the love of his life in the quirky computer-animated film featuring all the favorites from the Peanuts gang. 

August 14 - The Storks

The storks have moved on from delivering babies to packages. But when a baby delivery order gets sent through by accident, the best stork steps up to the challenge of fixing the mistake.
