There's just something about a summer -- maybe it's the sun-washed days and cool and cozy nights -- that begs for romance. But finding an original date idea beyond the  bland "dinner and a movie" date night can be daunting. Following are a few ideas for a night out that, whether you’ve been married for decades or are just starting a summer fling, provide an unconventional and memorable way to spend a little time with your main squeeze.

Picnic in the Park

Willow Creek or City Park have large grassy areas in addition to sports courts. Spread out a blanket and a picnic by 8 p.m. and enjoy dinner with a sunset. Make it a group date, or keep it intimate between the two of you.

Hiking up to Bloods Lake, Bonanza Flats.

Who says dates need take place only in the evening? Beat the heat by grabbing breakfast at Wasatch Bagel and hiking in the early morning. Hike around one of the resorts or head up to the Bonanza Flats area at Guardsman Pass; there are dozens of options. Extra points if you take the bus or a bike from the city's new e-bike share to an in-town trailhead.
