ARToberFest features a variety of family friendly activities including pumpkin painting.

Snowbird's Oktoberfest has concluded for the season, but there's another great family event happening this weekend in Park City. The Kimball Art Center is hosting their third annual edition of ARToberFest on Saturday, October 15th, an event which is free and open to the public. You and your family have the chance to participate in free kids' activities, art demos, and tour the upcoming exhibition Dealer's Choice.

Throughout the year, the Kimball Art Center tirelessly works to promote the arts in Park City, but they know they couldn't do it without the support of the people who live here. "This is our way of saying thank you to our community," says center staff member Larissa Trout. "By inviting our community to our space we are celebrating and sharing our mission to inspire and connect through art. We look forward to greeting old friends and making new ones!"

Here's what to look out for in this year's rendition of ARToberFest, which will take place from 12-5 p.m. at the Kimball Art Center, located at 1401 Kearns Blvd.

Kids Activities + Art Demonstrations

We can always count on the Kimball Art Center to keep kids occupied with an array of art inspired activities. There will be face painting, a photo booth, and pumpkin painting where you can conjure up colorful pumpkins ahead of Halloween. Kimball Art Center staff will also provide ceramic demonstrations during the event.

Dealer's Choice Exhibition Tours

ARToberFest is also your chance to to visit the upcoming Dealer's Choice exhibition. This new exhibit is a collaboration between the Kimball Art Center and many of Park City's local gallerists. For the exhibit, the gallerists looked beyond their own galleries and outside of Park City to come up with artists that inspire them. The result is a unique exhibit featuring a variety of artists and statements about why those artists spark each gallerists imagination. The participating galleries and artists include:

  • Gallery MAR - Amy Ringholz (Jackson Hole, WY)
  • J GO Gallery - Nicolas Sanchez (New York, NY)
  • Julie Nester Gallery - Joe Brubaker (San Rafael, CA)
  • Kimball Art Center - Nicole Pietrantoni (Walla Walla, WA)
  • Lunds Fine Art Gallery - Christopher Maggio (Murray, UT)
  • Meyer Gallery - Fidalis Buehler (Provo, UT)
  • Montgomery-Lee Fine Art - William Maughan (Highland, UT)
  • Silver Queen Fine Art - Stacey Embry (Versailles, MO)
  • Trove Gallery - Kathryn Kilpatrick-Miller (Helper, UT)

Silent Online Auction

Anyone looking to acquire one of more of the works on display as part of the exhibit are in luck because, for the first time ever,  this year's ARToberFest will feature a silent online auction. You can shop and bid on items donated by artists from the 2016 Park City Kimball Arts Festival and Utah businesses. You don't have to wait till Saturday to get in on the action either, the auction is currently open and accepting bids here

The auction features paintings, sculptures, wearable art, and more from over 40 different artists. Look out for the two pieces by Ali Mitchell, a Park City native who began her career as an artist by taking classes at Kimball (where she occasionally teaches painting). Other favorites artists include the guys behind the "Garden Art That Doesn't Suck", a.k.a. Sugar Post Metal Art, who are auctioning off their "Snow Bug" and part-time resident Miguel Sacarello with his abstract horse sculpture

Peruse through all the available items and complete your holiday shopping well ahead of time. Bidding ends at 11:59 p.m. on Sunday, October 15th and all of the proceeds will go to benefit programming for the Kimball Art Center.

Food & Drink

Light refreshments will be provided during the event, courtesy of the Kimball Art Center. This includes a number of seasonal appetizers and non-alcoholic beverages.

ARToberfest is an ideal to celebrate autumn, so come out for family fun and help support the Kimball Art Center. We'll see you there!
