Hands down, the most eventful and anticipated summer day in Park City is 4th of July. Though we are a town of serious mountain lovers, the annual Independence Day events are hardly limited to the great outdoors, and touch on both arts and cultural activities as well. And with the 4th falling on a Monday this year, the annual party gets started today. Following is a taste of the long weekend's jam-packed dance card:

Concerts

There aren't many venues that can compete with open-air concerts happening around Park City this weekend (and the rest of summer). For starters, the Deer Valley Music Festival is hosting a performance on July 2 featuring Broadway's Doug Lebreque. The free Saturday Summer Concert Series also kicks off at Canyons Village the same day with a performance by Analog Son. The jazz beats are sure to keep you dancing all evening long. In addition, St. Regis Big Stars, Bright Nights Concert Series will also host a show July 3 with the retro-hip band Squirrel Nut Zippers.

Park Silly Market

A staple of Park City summers for the last decade, the weekly Park Silly Market will, of course, commence on Sunday July 3rd. This open air, eco-friendly festival features an eclectic mix of over 150 vendors, offering everything from fresh produce from local farmers and gourmet food to artisan goods and nonprofits. Kids will love the bounce house, climbing wall, and face painting. Performances on the Main Stage will feature Hauz, Dr. Bob, and Tony Holiday & The Velvetones. Parking is limited so take the bus, walk, or check your bike in at the bike valet.

Annual Oakley July 4th Celebration & Rodeo

Less than a 30 minute drive from Park City, Oakley is hosting a series of July 4th activities starting today (June 30th). You can catch the rodeo plus an after-show fireworks display nightly through July 4. Other activities include a dance, live music, breakfast, a parade, and more.

34th Annual July 4th Doubles Volleyball Tournament

Park City locals definitely love themselves some volleyball and fill the courts at City Park most evenings of the summer. The more competitive of this crowd will test their spiking, assisting, and attacking skills at the July 4th Doubles Volleyball Tournament, held at the City Park and Treasure Mountain Middle School fields.

On July 4th there's a full day of activities planned, starting with a pancake breakfast prepared by a local Boy Scout Group in City Park and 5K Fun Run sponsored by Cole Sport in support of Park City's Olympic Athletes. The 4th of July Parade begins on Main Street at 11am followed by a celebration at the north end of City Park between noon and 4pm. Here you'll find the annual Park City Rotary BBQ, a beer garden hosted by Park City Rugby, and live music from local bands Motherlode Canyon Band and Swagger. At dusk, move on over to Park City Mountain Resort's Park City base area's for the fireworks.

In addition to the evening fireworks display, the Park City Mountain base area will also be hopping during the day. At 3 pm, there's a BBQ and family activities, including complimentary face painting and balloon tying. Festivities are accompanied by music from local DJ Velvet, spinning beats from a wide variety of genres. The fun continues with even more live music (5-9:30 pm) from local Park City rock quartet Holy Water Buffalo and the R&B soul/blues band Sin City Soul who will be playing until the fireworks begin.
