Park City’s vibrant art scene is not limited to historic Main Street. Aficionados will find thriving art galleries along Park Avenue, in the Iron Horse District, and at Redstone.

Jewelry designer Ron Butkovich’s RSB Designs (rsbdesignsco.com) is located in Park City’s historic district. Why so close to Main Street, yet tucked away? Because the gallery occupies the same building that once housed his grandparents’ general store: Butkovich went from stocking canned goods and mopping floors as a kid to creating handcrafted jewelry and one-of-a-kind wearable art. He gets his inspiration from nature, travel, life experiences, and ancient and modern art. Primarily using a five-step process and the techniques of lost wax and fabrication, Butkovich delights in the unpredictable use of traditional materials, precious metals, and stones, combining them with natural objects such as pinecones or aspen branches from trees in his yard. “I like to keep it fresh, entertaining, and fun,” he says.

Housed in a renovated warehouse in the Iron Horse District, the Julie Nester Gallery (julienestergallery.com) features the contemporary art of more than 40 emerging, midcareer, and established artists. “I had worked in the art business for years in San Francisco,” Nester explains, “and it was my goal to open a gallery in Park City that had the contemporary aesthetic, style, and artwork that you would find in a metropolitan environment like San Francisco, Los Angeles, or New York City. I was attracted to the light industrial look, the high ceilings, and the generous 3,200 square feet of my current space, and saw it as a perfect backdrop to showcase both large- and small-scale works.” The Julie Nester Gallery offers a fresh collection of original paintings, mixed-media prints, photography, and sculpture in a variety of styles, including figurative, abstract, and landscape.

At McMillen Fine Art Photography (mcmillenfineart.com), photographers Trish and Jared McMillen share their passion for the outdoors, celebrating nature in all of its magnificent detail. Their photography has been featured in Smithsonian, National Geographic Traveler/Adventure, and other elite publications, and unlike many other photographers in this digital age, the McMillens still shoot film. Using large- and medium-format cameras with an average of only four pictures per roll, they may revisit a location year after year to determine the right light, season, and viewpoint. A maximum of 250 prints of each photograph are made as limited editions, and only five or fewer as artists’ proofs. Of their location in Redstone, Jared says, “This is the only part of Park City that can grow. We may not have the traffic that Main Street has yet, but we have a very personal product, and it allows us to spend quality time with our clients.”
