On the Menu: Cherries

By Tessa Woolf July 5, 2012

Summertime is the peak growing season for cherries, and lately we've been seeing heaps of the shiny red fruit at grocery stores and road-side stands--and our mouths are watering. From classic cherry pie to Shirley Temple cocktails, cherries pack a sweet-and-sour punch that we can't get enough of. Lucky for us, cherries are grown throughout the state. In fact, Utah is the second largest tart cherry producing state in the nation, and the fifth largest sweet cherry producing state; no other state ranks in the top five in both categories. No wonder the cherry was designated the state fruit in 1997.

Considering our wealth of local cherries, we love the idea of adding the tasty little morsels into the food and drink elements and decor details of summer weddings. Think cherry cupcakes, mini pies, cocktails, and sorbets, and bowls of fresh cherries, cherry favors and place cards, even cherry blossom floral arrangements. Talk to your caterer, chef, or wedding planner about ways to incorporate the fruit into your fete. Get inspired by some of our favorite cherry recipes and details:
