In the 10 years since Kirsten Fox founded her Park City–based “educational happy hours,” a la the Fox School of Wine, she says she’s told herself again and again, “I can’t believe people pay me to do this!” And, really, what could be more fun than sitting around with like-minded folks enjoying a glass of wine or four, right? Well, Fox has upped her school’s fun-factor ante yet again by, this time, combining wine know-how with a dose of silver-mining history.

The Fox School of Wine’s three-hour, vintage-structures-meets-vintages-you-can-sip Mines to Wines tour serves up Park City’s seemingly boundless backstory with some of Fox’s favorite wines. The afternoon begins at the Montage Deer Valley with a glass of sparkling wine served at the Daly West Mine ruin, located just off the hotel’s back patio. Guests then hop aboard a luxury minibus to explore five more historic sites and enjoy five more wines, including a lovely boutique pinot noir from the Napa Valley served at the Miner’s Hospital and a musky, 20-year-old tawny port served—fittingly—at the site of Park City’s former Red Light District along Deer Valley Drive. Between stops, guests are given snacks to nibble on in the minibus, along with Fox’s signature irreverent humor. If you go, be sure to wear comfortable shoes, as there is some walking involved. And arrange for a ride home from the Montage, where Fox returns guests at the end of the tour. Cheers!
