A Star Is Born

La Stellina’s spaghetti carbonara is made with guanciale, egg, and Parmesan.
Matt Harris seems to be indefatigable. He and his wife, Maggie Alvarez, are the longtime owners of beloved Park City restaurant Tupelo. That alone would be a full-time job for most chef-owners, but Harris is also chef/consultant for the talented St. Regis Deer Valley culinary team. As such, he oversees food and drink at RIME, the Vintage Room, Brasserie 7452, The St. Regis Bar, the Wine Vault, in-room dining, and Wild Ember BBQ, with cuisine that ranges from lobster rolls and duck confit poutine to black truffle pizzas and Wagyu beef carpaccio.
But wait, there’s more! This past ski season, just in time for the throngs attending the FIS World Cup at Deer Valley Resort, Harris and his crew added a couple more hues to the St. Regis culinary palette with the opening of La Stellina—“little star” in Italian—and the adjacent Astor Bar, located near the funicular in the new Snow Park building.
In preparing to launch the new restaurant, Chef Harris traveled extensively throughout Italy. “La Stellina is a chef’s dream,” says Harris. “Under the tutelage of several Italian cesarines (home cooks), I learned to cook true, authentic Italian food.”

The stylish Italian eatery is ideal for date night but is also family-friendly.
La Stellina’s excellent homemade pasta dishes include hearty pappardelle Bolognese, meatballs and linguine, lasagna, spaghetti carbonara, and rigatoni all’Amatriciana. Equally delicious are main dishes such as veal Milanese, whole roasted branzino, chicken piccata, eggplant parmesan, pork chop saltimbocca, and roasted Wagyu steak. For dessert, don’t miss the decadent cannoli trio.
The stylish, contemporary restaurant features mosaic tile floors and black-and-white wall prints that evoke Italian vicolos and corsos (streets). Before heading into La Stellina to dine, take time to enjoy a signature craft cocktail at the cozy Astor Bar. For vino lovers, both La Stellina and the Astor Bar have access to the St. Regis Deer Valley’s Wine Vault, stocked with an astounding 10,000 bottles in every price range.
