The Sweet Spot: Tulie Bakery in Salt Lake City

By Tessa Woolf March 9, 2011

You know those little gems in your town that you adore and don't want anyone else to know about because you'd like to fantasize that they are your own special spot? But, at the same time, you love the place so much you want to shout from the rooftops how fantastic it is so people will come from far and wide to experience its greatness...

That's how I feel about Tulie Bakery.

Well known for owner Leslie Seggar's sinfully delicious and perfectly flaky croissants (on weekend mornings the bakery regulary sells out of their frangipane croissants--get 'em while they're hot!), the true gems at Tulie's are the cakes.

Let's get one thing straight: These aren't your typical "cakes." No heavy-handed frosting or elaborte decoration here. Tulie's cakes are simple: simply beautiful and simply delicious.

Baked as single layer or three-layer cakes in 4-inch or 9-inch sizes (the 4-inch cakes are adorable), flavors range from a buttery yellow cake with creamy vanilla or chocolate buttercream frosting to a rich poppy seed cake drenched in orange syrup and iced with orange cream cheese frosting.

For brides and grooms looking for wedding cakes free of fondant and embellishments, Tulie's cakes are just the ticket. Try a single 9-inch, triple layer cake or an arrangement of 4-inch cakes for a pretty dessert display.  You could even include some of Tulie's scrumptious sugar cookies and cupcakes. If cake isn't your thing, try an assortment of Tulie's darling 4-inch banana, lemon or coconut cream tarts.

Don't take my word for it-- go see and taste Tulie's treats for yourself. You won't be dissapointed.
