As the buzz (finally) dies down around the infamous Best Picture foible at this year's Oscars ceremony, we're gratefully going to move onto the next month of film screenings here in Park City. As always, the Park City Film Series is offering a variety of movies for people of all ages, including a few with beverage options. Here's our round-up of PCFS screenings and a few other notable film events in and around Park City.

Park City Film Series

Mar. 3 - 5: Neruda - Fri./Sat. 8 p.m., Sun. 6 p.m. @ the Jim Santy Auditorium

In post WWII Chile, the beloved poet Pablo Neruda (Luis Gnecco) is the most famous communist around, but when the political tides turn, he is forced underground as a tenacious police inspector (Gael García Bernal) pursues him. News of the chase reaches Europe and fellow artists, led by Pablo Picasso, call for Neruda's freedom. However, Neruda believes this is an opportunity to reinvent himself and he begins to play games with the police inspector, leaving clues and creating an ever more dangerous game of cat-and-mouse, in the hopes of transforming himself into a literary legend. 

To accompany the film, there will also be a special wine tasting featuring Chilean vintages from Amayna and Boya vineyards on Saturday night. The wine tasting begins at 6:30 p.m. and includes 3 glasses of wine + film ($35). Tickets are limited so get yours now!

Mar. 3 & 4: The BFG - 2 p.m. on Mar. 3 @ Summit County Library (Kimball Junction) & 4 p.m. on Mar. 4 @ Jiim Santy Auditorium (Free)

Storytelling giants Roald Dahl, Walt Disney, and Steven Spielberg come together to tell the tale of 10-year-old Sophie and the amazing adventures that ensue when she meets the Big Friendly Giant. Although frightened at first, Sophie soon realizes this 24-foot behemoth is gentle and charming. Of course, the same cannot be said for Bloodbottler, Fleshlumpeater, and other giants. Sophie and the BFG set out to convince Queen Elizabeth to vanquish all the bad giants. 

Mar. 10 - 12: 20th Century Women - Fri./Sat. 8 p.m., Sun. 6 p.m. @ the Jim Santy Auditorium

Raising a child as a single parent is never easy, but you have to tackle the task somehow. Set in 1979 California, a Santa Barbara single mom (Annette Bening) and boardinghouse landlords enlists the help of her tenants to help parent her teenage son. Her chosen role models include a quirky punk photographer, a mellow handyman, and her son's shrewd best friend. Featuring wonderful performances, this comedy is a charming slice of real life. 

Mar. 10 & 11: The Phantom Boy - 2 p.m. on Mar. 10 @ Summit County Library (Kimball Junction) & 4 p.m. on Mar. 11 @ Jiim Santy Auditorium (Free)

A mysterious illness grants Leo the ability to transform himself into a phantom boy, allowing him to leave his body and explore New York City as a ghostly apparition. During his hospital stay, Leo befriends Alex, a cop injured while attempting to take out a nefarious gangster who is wreaking havoc on the city's power supply. Together, they form a team relying on Leo's phantom powers and Alex's detective work to restore order in a visually stunning animated film. *Part of the DLI Program: Will be shown in French with English subtitles.

Mar. 17 - 19: Paterson - Fri./Sat. 8 p.m., Sun. 6 p.m. @ the Jim Santy Auditorium

Paterson is a bus driver in Paterson, New Jersey, with a daily routine that's more or less the same every day. He drives the bus, observing the city drift by, hearing pieces of conversations, he writes poetry, walks his dog, has one beer at the bar. Meanwhile his wife Laura lives in an ever-changing world of dream-inspired projects. This film encapsulates the triumphs and defeats of daily life with insight into the pleasures of unfolding moments.

Mar. 19: No Man's Land - National Theater Live 2 p.m. @ the Jim Santy Auditorium

Ian McKellan and Patrick Stewart return to the West End for this live broadcast of Harold Pinter's No Man's Land performed at the Wyndham's Theatre, London. On a summer evening, Hirst and Spooner, two aging writers engage in a lively conversation that turns into a revealing power game as the two become increasingly intoxicated. Also starring Owen Teale and Damien Molony, don't miss this revival of Pinter's classic comic. A Q&A with the cast and director Sean Mathias will follow the broadcast.  *Beer and wine will be available for purchase.

Mar. 24 - 26: I Am Not Your Negro - Fri./Sat. 8 p.m., Sun. 6 p.m. @ the Jim Santy Auditorium

Nominated for the Academy Award for best documentary feature, I Am Not Your Negro is an up-to-date examination of race in America. Using the frame of renowned author James Baldwin's words and archival material, this incendiary documentary connects the historical struggles of blacks in America to the challenges of today. There is no sugarcoating of the truth and the film urges us all to step up and take responsibility for our role in America's race problems. 

Mar. 31 - April 2: Toni Erdmann - Fri./Sat. 8 p.m., Sun. 6 p.m. @ the Jim Santy Auditorium

The German-Austrian entry for Best Foreign Language Film, Toni Erdmann is a hilarious and touching portrait of a father/daughter relationship. Dressed in a tacky suit, weird wig, and fake teeth, the concerned father barges into his daughter very structured corporate executive life. Through the comic madness, she begins to loose up and come to understand her father's eccentricities are something to be treasured.

Mar. 7 - Paper Tigers - 6 p.m. @ The Park City Library

Check out the free screening of the award winning documentary Paper Tigers and a panel discussion that explore the impact of Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACES) and stress on teenagers. This important film shows how ACES can lead to health problems and drug abuse, but also that caring and dependable adults can make a difference. Presented by the Speedy Foundation, Park City School District, CONNECT Summit County, and Authentic Strength Advantage, the screening will be followed by a discussion with Fatima Doman, Founder of Authentic Strengths Advantage, Bestselling Author and Positive Psychology Coach will share science-based solutions. 

Mar. 12 - Advance Screening of KUED's National Parks Troubled Edens - 7 p.m. @ R.E.I. Salt Lake City (3285 East 3300 South)

Do you love the National Park system? Dubbed "America's best idea" this national treasures include 84 million acres of our diverse landscapes from the Everglades, to deserts, glaciers, and redwood forests. These beloved parks, however, face unique challenges in the 21st Century and filmmakers ask the question, "Are they being loved to death?" The examination of the future of our national parks, including Utah's five national parks, the "Crown Jewels" of the state. It is the final film in KUED's Year of the Parks trilogy in honor of the National Park Service's centennial. 

Mar. 17 - F3T Fly Fishing Film Festival - 6 p.m. @ Sundance Mountain Resort

Are you looking forward to the summer for the fly fishing adventures it promises? Than check out the F3T Fly Fishing Film Festival happening at the nearby Sundance Mountain Resort. Presented by Trout Unlimited, this fundraiser will include several short films as well as fly fishing activities and raffle prizes.
