Just above the Smith and Morehouse Reservoir and 14 miles from Oakley, Ledgefork Campground is a truly unplugged getaway (e.g., cell service is spotty at best). Part of the Uinta-Wasatch-Cache National Forest, this campground serves as basecamp for hiking, fishing, canoeing, off-roading, or just relaxing in a hammock. The 73 sites there are mostly sizable and screened by mature conifers and aspens, with the best spots offering easy access to the creek. In neighboring Heber Valley, Wasatch Mountain State Park’s main campground is within a quick pedal or walk of the Dutch Hollow, Pine Creek, and Snake Creek Trails—as well as the namesake golf course. The main campground comprises roughly 100 sites, some of which are a little tight for larger RVs. A more primitive and less busy option located on the other end of the park is Little Deer Creek campground (seven miles off Cascade Springs Rd), a fave of the off-road vehicle crowd. Hailstone Campground is the heart of Park City’s always-busy watersports playground, the Jordanelle State Park. More than 100 sites line RV and tent loops within easy striking distance of the 3,000 surface acres of water. This is one of Utah’s busiest campgrounds, making your best bet to find availability Monday through Wednesday. A handful of hike-in sites (be prepared to hike a mile with your stuff) are available at Hailstone as well as at the park’s quieter Rock Cliff area on the eastern shore. Highlights include fishing, boating, and the floating playground AquaXZone.
