Riders participate in the Tour of Utah's "Ultimate Challenge"

Park City is a pedaling paradise. Here mountain bikers revel in hundreds of miles of trail to conquer. Or if road biking is more your style, no worries, there's plenty of people cruising the pavement up and down the mountains here here as well. Heck, we even have snow bikes shredding the slopes during the winter these days. Regardless of how you prefer to ride, the theme of this week is definitely getting your bike on--even if it just means waiting for the hundreds of cyclists in the Tour of Utah to fly by while you sit on the sidelines with a cold beverage in your lawn chair. Following are a few ways to get around on two wheels in Park City this week.

Tour of Utah & The Ultimate Challenge

Arguably one of the most difficult bike races out there (thanks to the elevation and grueling climbs), the Larry H. Miller Tour of Utah is upon us. The competition consists of seven stages completed August 1-7, spread out across the state, and spectators will line the streets for just a glimpse of the cyclists as they speed by. Park City visitors and locals will have a chance to see the racers during the final two stages, which includes all day finish-line festivities at the top of Main Street during the Tour's last day. Come out from 12:15 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. to cheer these top-notch athletes on to what's sure to be an epic finish.

Every year, the hardcore bikers among us take the Ultimate Challenge of completing Stage 6 in conjunction with the professionals. Stage 6 is 114 miles from Snowbasin Resort to Snowbird Ski and Summer Resort. Any rider will, of course, tell you it's not the distance that's the challenge, but the 11,165 vertical feet of climbing along the way that gets you. Perhaps this is why the challenge has fondly been dubbed the "Tour de Suffer" by those brave enough to take it on.

Twilight Ride Series At Deer Valley

Deer Valley is in the midst of a pilot program to keep its lifts open later for mountain bikers with the Scott Twilight Rides Series. On Tuesday August 2, 16, and 23 the chairlifts will remain open till 7 p.m., allowing those of us with regular 9 to 5 jobs a chance to get up the hill and fully utilize the longer daylight hours. You'll also have the chance to get your hands on some swag during these select evenings; Scott Sports, whose sponsored athletes are participating in the rides, is offering exclusive contests and product giveways through their social media channels to help promote DV's extended hours. The Snow Park and Silver Lake lodges, as well as the Silver Lake  Snack Shack, will remain open during the Scott Twilight Rides to serve any hungry bikers. Private biking lessons can be scheduled upon request.

White Pine Touring TNR Series

If you're having trouble getting out on your bike or knowing where to go, this one is for you. Local adventure company, White Pine Touring is offering free guided mountain bike rides every Thursday till the end of August. Don't worry about being too fast or too slow, each ride is broken into ability levels and is led by a professional guide to make sure no one gets dropped. Come on the last Thursday of the month to take part in a free BBQ following the ride. Rides are from 6-8 p.m. every Thursday and participants should arrive by 5:30 p.m. (of 5 p.m. if you want to rent a bike).

Team Sugar Women Only Guided MTB Series

Ladies, have you ever been dragged out on a"really easy" mountain bike ride by your significant other and been left scarred (both mentally and physically) by the experience? The women of White Pine Touring are offering their help for free every Tuesday to show the ropes to those newer to the sport. This women-only ride is a chance to meet new friends, get some tips from a team of skilled ladies, and take on new trails. Team Sugar meets at White Pine Touring at 5:30 p.m., rides are from 6-8 p.m.

Cole Sport Free Weekly Road Bike Rides

From 6 p.m. to 7:45 p.m. on Monday nights, Cole Sport on Park Avenue is inviting cyclists to come along for their weekly group road bike rides. Regardless of your age or ability, this is a great way to take a tour around Park City. The ride on August 1 will follow a 17-mile loop around town. Cole Sport offers a variety of other cycling activities throughout the summer as well, including a bi-weekly ladies mountain bike ride.

Midweek Mountain Bike Race Series

If you've done your time on the trails and want to test your skills against other bikers, why not sign-up for one of the Midweek Mountain Bike Race Series friendly races? Every week's race is held at a different venue; this week's course will be held at Snowbird. You can register ahead of time online for $17 or the day of the event for $20 (kids under 12 are free). The race is followed by a raffle so even if you don't come in first on your bike, you could still walk away with a prize.

And if all those events don't inspire you, consider this: getting on a bike is a much more efficient way to hatch all those eggs in Pokémon Go--just be sure to keep and eye on where you're going and always wear a helmet.
