Since its inception almost 50 years ago, the Kimball Art Center has served as Park City’s visual arts backbone. The community’s deep affection for this beloved organization was evident a couple of weeks ago during the center’s biggest fundraiser of the year, its annual Gala. Event chair Vanessa Di Palma Wright and co-chair Maren Mullin took cues from the center’s current exhibit, Richard Serra: Prints, for the event’s black-and-white theme.
This year’s event was particularly exciting in that earlier in the week, the Kimball’s next chapter was revealed when Park City Municipal announced its plans to purchase 5.25 acres in Bonanza Park East to create an arts and culture district anchored by the Sundance Institute and the Kimball Art Center.
But, as outgoing executive director Robin Marrouche noted during the event, none of the more than $100,000 raised at the gala will be spent on purchasing land or building the new center; all funds raised that evening will go directly to support what’s made the Kimball Art Center such a vital part of this community: in-school programming, the Young Artists Academy, summer camps, and much, much more.Â
