We all know the drill. The early bird gets the first tracks. And everyone else: long lift lines and skied-out terrain. Sure, definitely a first-world problem, but how awesome would it be having an entire resort to yourself?
You’re in luck. Just 100 miles north of Park City lies Whisper Ridge Cat Skiing (801.876.4664), the country’s newest—and largest—backcountry resort offering access to 60,000 acres of unspoiled terrain. Lift lines? You won’t find them there. That’s because there are no lifts. “We offer eight custom-crafted passenger [PistenBully] snowcats, helicopter-assisted first-drop access, as well as a vehicle-accessed base camp,” says owner Dan Lockwood. “We also offer full-blown helicopter-assisted ski adventures on portions of our property.”
The best part? You get to pick your own adventure. “The customer’s day starts and ends based on his desires between dusk and dawn,” he says. Opt for a single day of shredding or a multinight stay in one of three luxurious yurt villages. Lodging rates are inclusive of select snow activities (heli-skiing is additional), gourmet chef–prepared meals, and beverages. Ending the day in a secluded village in a wood-fired hot tub is the definition of priceless.
Whisper Ridge allows guests to experience backcountry skiing “in a safe and warm environment, with modern technology and gear,” Lockwood says. “Our primary goal is our guests’ safety, and our focus is to send them home with strong lasting memories of ‘The Whisper Experience.’”
