If you've been in City Park the last couple of days, you may have noticed a giant new movie screen going up. That's because the annual Sundance Institute Summer Film Series, which kicked off the first week of July, is coming to Park City. Trade your parka in for a picnic basket and come join in the fun...
The Way, Way Back (2013)
On July 15, there will be a screening of the 2013 Sundance Film, The Way, Way Back, a coming-of-age summer comedy starring Steve Carell, Toni Collette, Allison Janney, Sam Rockwell, Maya Rudolph, and Liam James. Before the film begins (at dusk), Park City Recreation will host lawn games.
Under The Electric Sky (EDC 2013)
On July 29, the film series will feature its first 3-D film ever. Take a peek into the lives of festivalgoers and the EDM phenomenon at the biggest music festival in the U.S., Electric Daisy Carnival Las Vegas. Under The Electric Sky was screened at the 2014 Sundance Film Festival and includes behind-the-scenes footage and exclusive interviews about how this magical event is put together.
On August 12, the final movie screening in City Park will be Sonita, the 2016 winner of the Sundance Grand Jury Prize and the Audience Award for Best World Cinema Documentary. A collaboration between Germany, Iran, and Switzerland, the film is the touching story of a young Afghan woman who dreams of becoming a rapper and the conflict she faces as her parents plan to sell her as a bride for $9,000 to an unknown husband in Iran.

The Sundance Institute will also be hosting movies in collaboration with the Rose Wagner Center for the Arts in Salt Lake City throughout the summer. On July 16, there will be a screening of 2016 Sundance film, Kiki, as part of the annual Damn These Heels LGBT Film Festival (July 15-17), followed by a Q&A with activist Gia Marie Love. Directed by Swedish filmmaker Sara Jordenö, the film is an intimate and visually striking look into the lives of LGBTQ youths of color and their fight for political empowerment through the practice of voguing.
Don't forget, in addition to the showings at City Park, you can tune into more free movies from the Sundance Institute Film Series at the Red Butte Garden Amphitheatre in Salt Lake City.
