Katie Hammond inside her namesake boutique, Cake.

Hard-hitting questions first: If Cake Boutique (577 Main St, 435.649.1256) were an actual cake, what kind of cake would it be? A layer cake, definitely. Made alternately of soft cashmere and designer denim. Katie Hammond opened the clothing boutique in 2008—dubbed for her niece’s nickname for her, “Aunt Cake.” And she recently launched nearby sister shop C|Two by Cake, offering loungewear, intimates, skin care, and makeup.

Enviro-Friendly Beauty Fix: If you love going green as much as your Gucci, RMS Beauty is the beauty brand for you. It’s GMO-, gluten-, and soy-free and boasts pure, organic, good-for-your-face ingredients like natural minerals and coconut oil. The packaging is made of recyclable materials, but the sleek, modern products are more glam than granola.

Find RMS at Splendor Beauty Emporium (1675 Redstone Center Dr, 435.575.1800) where owner Delilah Gervais recommends the best-selling Living Luminizer. “Everyone should own this,” she says. “It makes even the blotchiest skin look luminescent.”

Hammond moved to Park City from Southern California when she was 10 years old, and her dual-state upbringing reflects Cake’s aesthetic. “The shop is a blend of mountain-town apparel and California casual with a few New York City pieces peppered in,” she explains. Everything is stylish and functional. “We sell sweaters and coats for a reason—you need them here.” She also sells little black dresses, leather skirts, high-waist/low-rise/skinny/boyfriend jeans, and boots, all by contemporary designers like 360 Sweater, Elizabeth and James, Rag & Bone, T by Alexander Wang, Vince, and more. “Jeans, an oversized sweater, and mid-heel booties—that’s Park City in an outfit,” she says.

All of the clothing is hand-selected by Hammond: “If I don’t love it, I don’t buy it.” The palette throughout Cake’s thoughtfully curated space is neutral—black, white, ivory, cream, and navy—with occasional hints of color. “Nothing is loud or super trendy; there are no crazy patterns,” she says. But the selection is far from vanilla—these are classic, versatile investment pieces you’ll want to wear every day.

Comfort is also key for Hammond, and part of her inspiration behind C|Two. “The first thing I do when I get home from work is put on something comfy,” she explains. Hence C|Two’s selection of jersey-knit Maison du Soir pajamas; pretty Stella McCartney lingerie; and soft Sundry leggings, sweats, and tees. C|Two also features tried-and-true beauty loot from brands found in Hammond’s own bathroom cabinet: Kiehl’s, Supergoop, and more. Like the clothing at Cake, these cozy and pampering buys are all about understated luxury.
