Stepping into Splendor Beauty Emporium (1635 W Redstone Center Dr, 435.575.1800, shopsplendor.com) is the adult equivalent of a kid walking into a candy store. The tempting scent of the shop’s candle du jour hangs in the air, and the walls and counters are stacked with brightly packaged beauty treats and glossy makeup trays filled with colorful and sparkling shadows, lipsticks, polishes, and powders.
“Makeup is a form of expression—it’s like accessorizing,” muses Splendor owner Delilah Gervais. This year marks Splendor’s 10th in Park City, and after just one visit, you’ll see how this inviting specialty shop has managed to thrive in Park City’s competitive retail environment.
Gervais possesses an encyclopedic knowledge of each and every product from the shop’s 150-plus vendors. (Same goes for her client records; she can easily identify that lip gloss your aunt fell in love with while vacationing here last Christmas.) Splendor stocks beloved, big-name brands like NARS, Fresh, and one of Gervais’s favorites, Laura Mercier. “She founded and formulated the first tinted moisturizer in the marketplace,” she says. “It’s a top seller and customer favorite because it works for all age groups.” But Gervais loves supporting small, indie labels, too, like Bootzie, a Hawaiian company that produces two vanilla-based, roller-ball fragrances.
Along with all manner of makeup, gifts, and skin-care, bath, and body items, Splendor also offers services like facials, waxing, tinting, tweezing, and makeup applications for date night, girls’ night, or weddings.
This winter, Gervais loves the look of full brows and bold lips. “Purples and reds are big this season,” she says. “You can throw on a colorful lip and mascara and really look polished. And always fill in your eyebrows—it makes a huge difference.” To get the look, she recommends Blinc Eyebrow Mousse, Smashbox Brow Tech To Go, NARS Velvet Lip Pencil in Mysterious Red, and the new NARS Audacious Lipstick in Bette.
And her top skin-care tip when temps start to drop? “It’s dry in Park City, so it’s important to exfoliate,” explains Gervais. “People think it’s going to dry their skin out, so instead they just pack on moisturizer. But you have to exfoliate for your lotions to work effectively.”
